The pics so far are pretty close. I might be splitting hairs but I've seen and tried on a gen 253 and the clasp on the crown guard is a fair bit smaller. As in it doesn't jut out as far as the rep. I apologize if my terminology is a bit off!

But it's still a great looking watch!

Newbie here but I just ordered the 253 from Josh here http://www.pc-80108.com/pn25301-regetta ... -2193.html

I looked at Andrew's as well. The only think I noticed was Andrew's 212 (I was also considering this one) had incorrect subdials so I just said what the heck and ordered from Josh. Also, I agree about the font not being thick enough compared to the gen. I'll post a few pictures once mine arrives.

I really love the 253, but I will not buy one because of the 7750 movement. I have purchased a few 7750 watches and they have been the cause of a lot of frustration for me. I am probably going to end up with a 047 manual wind.

Both the 253 and 212 are on my list of must haves at some point.

What issues did you have? I was reading positive comments on the 7750 at RWG.

JB - where did you purchase that one? Looks nice.

You need to keep reading. I have about a 50/50 failure rate with the Asian 7750. I only own 1 Swiss 7750 and have had no problem with it. However, I bought this watch when the Swiss movement was not a $500- premium, I am not going to pay the premium for a Swiss 7750. For that kind of money I will buy less expensive gens.

Yea, I didn't want to pay the $400 premium for the Swiss movement. We you say 50/50 does it just stop working or not keep good time or what? Now I'm nervous.

I have to argue with the claim that the 7750 has a 50/50 failure rate. The newer 7750, beating at 28,800, is actually a pretty reliable movement when not running the seconds at 6.

I did have a problem with one of the older one, beating at 21,600. That movement was shit.

However, I currently own 4 28,800 versions, with two more on the way. They are all work horses that keep great time.

@ 4runner

This is why mine looks so good:

To be honest JB I could not say. It has been a while since I was willing to go with another 7750. I have had no problems finding watches to spend my money on that are not chronos.

Don't get me wrong, the old movement was terrible. If there is a chrono that turns you on, you should give the new version a shot.

I will remember that. I know there have been some recent instances of dealers still shipping the old 7750. I just have not wanted to deal with it at this point.

What do you mean by "not running the seconds at 6"

Also, yes, I was reading about the 28800 which I guess are the newer ones. Hope it is a good one for me.

The Daytonas and some IWC watches run the seconds hand at the 6 o'clock position. These movements have been modified with 11 extra cogs that reposition the seconds. Not only do all these extra gears cause a lot of stress on the movement, but they are not jeweled. A majority of these modified movements go bad quickly, especially in the Daytona.

Yes, the 28,800bph version is the newer version.

Actually I just ordered the PAM 253 from Angus and he told me that his version is even newer / more improved over Revision 3 PAm 253 that Josh/andrew sell. I guess I'll have to do a careful "comparacent" when I get it....

Did he tell you exactly what had been improved. I'm extremely curious.

Here is pic of my 253 that just arrived on Sat from Josh. The blemish on the "M" in "T.M" is the only issue, although small, I have with it so far. I really like it.

By the way, Sapphire = Synthetic Sapphire. All "sapphire" watch crystals are "synthetic sapphire". Lesser materials are mineral glass and in the really cheap ones...polycarbonate.

Sapphire is much more scratch resistant than mineral glass though it can be scratched by carbon steel and diamond, which is another type of carbon. Because of its hardness, it is more brittle (will break easier) than mineral glass.
