That was an easy zero. My factory was running Davince's email only within the building on Arcnet. Outside email did not exist yet.

This still exists in retail banks and supermarkets over here. To push cash out from the front. When I started to work at the newspaper office, we used pneumatic tubes to send documents and messages between different departments.
0. Repeatedly.Feefo how did you do on the list.
First and last time I spoke on a party line was the first (but not last) time I got black out drunk about 25 years ago.How many of you have talked on a party line? I imagine only about 25% of those who responded in this thread have done so.
Happened all the time! I was the same way too, listening in on the nitty gritty. I remember my grandma getting on the phone telling people to hang up because she had an important call to make.It was anything but . . .it was a shared phone line between a cluster of houses. I remember - you used to pick up the phone to phone someone and they'd be the one of your neighbours chatting away to someone on their call. Protocol was you hung up and tried a bit later. The mischievous lad that I was used to listen in for a while but soon get bored.
My parents home had a party line. That was about 60 years ago. It was better than no phone. When my kids were young we added a long cord so you could talk with a little privacy.I had 10 days of that experience when visiting family friends in New Brunswick (Canada not New Jersey) and they lived in a rural area that had the party line. Me not knowing that each house had a specific ring I would just answer the phone. After a few times making the mistake of picking up the phone I just gave up and let it ring.
Brings me back to my first job. Pager and calling card. When I was a student, I had to go to a phone booth and use telecom cards to phone home
Payphones when you had to use coins were such a pain in the assWhen I was a student, I had to go to a phone booth and use telecom cards to phone home
Same here, sometimes with coins as well, and a call from LA to HK or Seoul costs a fortune. When I was a student, I had to go to a phone booth and use telecom cards to phone home
