Paradise! (SE Qld)
Yep, I think the 4801 / 2 movements look to be way better built than the ponced up 4131's, and why do we care what the balance looks like, from the dawn of watches the regulating system used in 99.9 % of movements has always been the same design and has mostly served us well (y)

I went for the 'ponced up' Dd4131 for four reasons...

1. It has a bi-directional rotor which is quieter than a uni, I also wear my watches on my right wrist and I heard/read somewhere that uni-directional rotors don't operate as well when worn on the right?? Someone can enlighten me on this...
2. I believe it has a Paraflex shock absorber like gen and so more resilient to knocks.
3: If it shits itself you can always drop in a 4801 anyway.
4. I'm keen on an open caseback, don't know why, just wanna see that beautiful mechanism, which the Peacock is not! 🤮

Is the SL4801 as thin as the 4131 ? We can TWF carbone Daytona around 15 mm. Do they use a SL 4701 or a 7750 ?

Ok so the 116500's use the SH 4130 movement same as the 116520's? The gens were thicker models 12.4mm I think as they were essentially the same watch, just the 500 had newer dial and ceramic bezel. The time setting on them, was this incorrect then, the post said there is only one time setting like the gen "so gen is, crown screwed down, crown unscrewed (winding position) and then crown out for the hour and minute hand advancement.)"

It only the latest gen model 126500 that only has the one crown position for time setting? or did the previous model only have one?

For the reps of the 116520 and 116500 was the time setting a big giveway then? did they have one setting for the hour and minutes and also one just for the hour?

Just trying to get my head round this as I didnt know there was an issue like this, regarding the movement and time setting.

I agree with most on the decoration of the movement, it does look nice but not all that important as it would only perhaps fool a watch maker if they had never seen a gen but dont think it would even fool them either. However as most of us never take the back of to show anyone it does seem less important.

However look and feel would be key and as long as it looks correct and if the crown is unwound it should function like the gen, most might not clock it doesnt to be honest unless they handle them all the time, but the difference between the VR3186 and DD or others 3285 movements for hour hand setting are different and to a dealer would probably be a big tell. IOn any of them even if its a franken all over if they open the back up a rep movement as good as they are is a tell.

If this model is a almot perfect version of the 126500 with the steel and ceramic bezel then its probably the one to go for if this movement allows it to sit lower on the wrist and sets the time as per gen?

Cheers Trusty for letting us in on it.

With all the fuss over the movement. Why didn’t they just use a DD4131 and call it a day. The reworked case, bezel, crown and pushers all sound great.
