That's what I thought too, except you can get rep Longines, which I do know is a popular brand in China.

Yeah but they all use A2824 movement, which is cheap and proven, developing a clone chrono movement from scratch is on a whole different level. Just look how long it took them to make a proper Daytona clone movement, and Daytona is one of the most popular watches ever.
I hear you, but still odd they rep Longines when they are pretty cheap.
Mate, you don't need to tell me about Daytona, been buying reps for over 10 yrs, waiting so long for the cloned 4130 and waited another 2 yrs before I started getting V3, now I have 11 of them haha

Watchsmiths says the movement is reliable. I waited V3 for the daytona is not just the movement, but also the flaws of V1 and V2 exterior like the bezel font is wrong.

I don’t have the history, but in v1 through v4….did the clone movement get upgraded in each iteration (due to reliability issues surfaced by the community or watchmakers), or was it mostly the non-movement elements in the various versions while the movement was unchanged?

People are buying rep moonswatches….
the whole point of buying reps is the price point. Although cheaper than Patek and AP, even cheap abused gen speedmasters are still out of reach of most of us, hence we spend inordinate amounts of time trawling rep sites and purchasing reps.
What is happening now though is that the reps are becoming tiered based on the original they are repping. The $4-500USD common pricing has been smashed and we are now seeing more and more models in the $USD 700-1000 bracket.
Even the reps are now getting out of reach for many…..

My point is that there has been price gouging in the last 12-18 months with reps. What was a decent $USD 450 rep not that long ago now sells for $USD 500-600+

Inflation. Materials, workforce, marketing. Everything is getting more expensive. Reps can’t keep their prices when everything else is getting more expensive.
I would see it in a different way...
People are paying 100+K for a gen 5712 why nodding when you can get the same stuff for still less than a 1/100th of its price....

Indeed- but don't forget this is a clandestine / illegal market industry where those standard economic forces don't apply in a regulated fashion...Many of these factories ( and TD ) will charge what they like, when they like and how they like.... The biggest driver here is our appetite and subordination to the high prices. Ce La Vie........ Its still cheaper than buying the Gen- but like I said - its creating a hierarchy even within us Rep buyers with the more affluent able to buy the top level reps v those only able to afford the lower level reps. The whole point of the rep stuff was to make it affordable to almost everyone.... The point here is the gap between average and Super Rep and NWBG is getting huge now..... bigger than its ever been.

You are right about the lack of regulation etc. I think the point for the repmakers is to make money. If they can divide their market in two categories, they will. Because the margins will be bigger at slightly bigger expenses. I think a rep like the 5712 will give them big margins once their development expenses for the clone movement has been covered.
That’s their motivation.

Yes, I noticed the same thing. Could be a huge drop in value when the new one comes out.
It will be interesting, for example if the crown sticks out like the current version and also some other visual flaws, a modded 5712 might not have drop much....
