Loctite wont work. You need to use something like Liquid Nails.

I'm still going backwards and forwards on one of these, they look stunning. The movement is both a pro and a con for me though as while it looks stunning and is a very impressive piece of engineering the reliability issues concern me as do problems getting it serviced and repaired - I know we're in the rep world but I like to stick to watches which I will be able to keep as long as I want with regular maintenance and it just seems like if this dies in a couple of years it's going to be a beautiful paperweight.

For that reason I'm looking at the equally beautiful (but less technically impressive) 8 day hand wind version with the decorated 6498 unless it turns out this movement is repairable with off the shelf parts from other movements.

Just done some health check (Not service) on my 5001 as watchsmith suggest not needed service. Feedback of movement were well made and servicing is like 28xx or 77xx added few complication.

Reliability still my concern how well it runs and i've seen some have issue of breaking down / stopped. Maybe due to the poor assembly skills / line / parts, and also there are few are running perfect. Only time will tell.

thermalboyz Thanks for the info mate, it's somewhat reassuring - I think I'll sit on it for a few weeks and see if I feel the same but the new 5454 is looking mighty tempting especially in RG with a nice leather strap

Some questions, I've been following this thread for a long while and finally got my first rep watch! I never owned a nice watch prior and I just want to make sure I don't overlook anything in regards to matinence/storage/preventative stuff. Is there anything I should be doing to this watch?

As far as noise goes, is it normal for it to sort of "rattle" when I shake my wrist a little? It seems kind of loud but as I said I don't have any experience with these watches. If I were to guess I would think something is lose in there lol....

On to straps, if I were to order one from say, Orloff or someone do I need to send my current strap in? I don't know how to switch the clasp is it done with a spring bar? I also don't really see prices on his website, I assume they are in the 100 range?

If you you are new to automatic watches, there are a couple of tips... You'll want to start looking for a rep-friendly watch smith either locally or here on the board. All mechanical watches will eventually need to be taken apart, cleaned and oiled. That whirring noise you here is the rotor, it winds the watch with body movement. Nothing really to worry about there.

It's really best to learn to do some of the smaller things yourself. But an inexpensive watch tool kit with a springbar tool. There are lots of tutorials online regarding strap changing. You don't need to send your strap in.

Enjoy your watch! You'll be getting another before long. This stuff is addictive.

use Loctite 638 ( its green ) , then its like new afterwards :)

Loctite 638 did the trick. It's stuck down firmly and I can't physically pull it back out.

Back on my wrist tomorrow!

Thanks for the advice!

^ Thanks I tried alot of different loctite and the longest it lasted was 1 week of everyday wear. I did pull it open a few times more than normal to test it but it eventually came off. What I ended up using was epoxy mix. Epoxy resin mixed with Epoxy hardener and its like a nail cant move it anymore.

My 5001 arrived today. A really nice watch, except the strap. It's really low quality.
I ordered an orloff strap, with the measurements of the fake strap, but the fake strap is a little bit to small for my wrist. For a comfortable way to wear the watch, which side of the strap should be extended (the shorter or the longer end)?

And one noob question how do I set the time/date and wind the spring on this movement?

Variatio Delectat: Nice thanks for the help.
merowinger: Shit didn't thought about that!

I mean in which crown position, can I change the date etc and which direction I should wind the crown?

Pull out the crown. 1st click = date, 2nd click = time. As it is an automatic movement there is no need to wind it at all, just shake it a bit and wear it.

Ok thanks, wasn't quite sure. I know I don't have to wind it, but I don't wear my watches all day and therefore I like to wind them, does the 5001 has this feature?
@aligborat69: Do you mean am or pm?

One more thing, when I change the time, can I adjust it in both directions? Meaning clockwise and counterclockwise?

Don't think it matters, it's mostly to avoid doing damage if you change date manually while the movement is already in the date change process
