I don't know… They're not that bad. If it wasn't for anal rep collectors schooling them on gen forums, most gen owners probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Oh well, besides the two known flaws (dw, crown) where especially the dw is shouting "REP!" from miles ahead it's the thickness of them which is a very obvious tell if you look at them, not to mention the feeling which indeed makes a remarkably huge difference. IMO they are far far away from 1:1 or "ultimate" and heavily overpriced. Having said that, I own a 2014 Safari rep myself, just because I like it. ;)

Datewheel yes but unless you know, you don't know. Crystal is a big one too, but still... I reckon a lot of them are pretty good. At $350-550 they're not exactly like a $20K gen of course but they only scream rep to those who know what to look for. Which is no one in my circles.

Even if you are not aware of the dw, once you see them side by side the thickness is the most obvious difference, and wearing them makes you immediately recognize the rep even if you don't look at it. Quite frankly, that really is the most annoying issue I have with mine, even more than dw or crown.

As Norrie was saying it needs a certain level of knowledge to "see the obvious difference of 1.5mm in thickness". Out of all the people who are looking at your wrist (2% of those you bump into everyday) maybe 0.1% would know.

So for 99.8% of the people out there your Safari 2014 will look exactly like gen.

But I agree with you, to a trained eye the flaws are evident.
That didnt stop me from buying 7-8 Ap reps..

No one knows the thickness or date window except people who buy reps on this forum. Stop worrying and enjoy the watches lol

Be assured that both of my watch smiths recognize it as a rep at first sight. Besides, if it does not matter, what would be the benefit of having "1:1" or "ultimate" reps? No one knows anyways. ;)

No doubt about that, you are of course entirely right. It's not that I care for people but I care for myself. I probably should not have tried the gen Safari, because ever since the rep just does not feel "right" on the wrist LOL.

Yes, but not everyone in this world is a watch smith and the chances of running into one at your favorite restaurant or weekend getaway is slim to none.

Obviously true. As I mentioned, I don't care for people, but I do care for myself. Just don't ever try a gen ROO 42mm, you might very well end up never wearing a rep again. The Diver and the 44mm ROOs feel very very good though. :)

I try them on all the time while I'm in Vegas at various shops there, and I'm very happy with the quality of the reps, though gen is gen, but I know what you mean.

Maybe I'm dreaming but wouldn't it be nice for these factories to commission someone like Seagull to make a better sec@12 movement or replicate the LWO 283 movement that would correct the DW, thickness, crown, and reliability issues. It's already been done with the IWC 7day movement and word on the street is it's close on the the Panerai P.9000 movement.
