What are other's experiences with plexi vs. sapphire over time?
Is it conceivable that future versions of this model would eventually end up with a sapphire crystal?
Is it confirmed that the gen actually has plexi as well?
I have a couple of vintage Swiss watches from the 60-70s with plexi. Plexi provides a 'warmth' when looked at that you'll never experience with sapphire. Plexi is what original Panerai watches came with.
Scratches can easily be buffed out using toothpaste, Polywatch and other products.
The gen, in essence a 372 with a few aesthetic differences, comes with plexi. While the gen 372 comes with a second (replacement) plexi dome, I don't know if the 605 does too (Evora could confirm that for us). I doubt future versions of this model will end up with a sapphire crystal. That is unless they change it on the 372, which has been speculated several times, but mostly likely will never happen (per boutique managers in U.S. and Switzerland).
It is possible that a future version of the rep could come with sapphire, just like the 372 and 604, but don't quote me on that and don't hold your breath.
