it seems to me the caseback is really thick/tall..
I mean as opposed to old divers

Actually the tang is an integrated part of the buckle, everything slides out together.

I have not had the gen in hand yet (i dont like the new divers look), but I do like the quick release system, so Im quite interested in retrofitting it onto my older pieces.

If referring to the quick release, yes, it functions just like gen for both buckle and strap.
