Where I need to be.
And here I was hoping the next batch of 26240 reps had those bezel screws šŸ˜…
The truth is, you do get a small percentage of gens with less than perfect bezel screw alignments as well. Gen or rep, it’s always about what you see and what you mind, it doesn’t matter what someone else says or thinks. We all have different depths of attention to details and tolerances so what really matters is how the watch looks to you.

But in the same way, it’s important to remember that what you see as an unacceptable flaw on a watch, is something perfectly acceptable to the owner.

Gen is Gen, and the rest are just novelty watches which aren’t really luxury timepieces but replicas. These replicas have come a long way and are respectable when visual accuracy go, especially considering the prices they go for. How far one wishes to take his watch is up to the individual and there is no right or wrong answer.

There are Chinese dial makers that can produce custom dials to specifications. No I have not gone down this road. Yes, I have seen these makers' ads on Ali Express and the like. Some might require bulk orders, else higher cost per individual.
And do you think they are good?

I think the only gen-like dial is the gen dial. Any custom dial maker will not be able to replicate the AP dial perfectly due to the different crafting process. But to be honest they can look visually alike.. in real life it won't be a concern. Even if everything looks like the genuine, it will still not be an actual AP watch. You cannot replicate the provenance and pedigree no matter what. So for a sub $1000 watch, I would say the factory did a fantastic job. The watch should just be enjoyed for what it is, and members should be thankful for its release instead of complaining about the minute details.

I always believe it's the person that brings class to the watch, not the other way round. Bill Gates made the $70.00 Casio looks like a $70,000 watch. For a moment, you thought it was a custom Casio when in reality, it's a Casio you find in Walmart.

You think he can't afford the most expensive Jacob & Co or PP or VC?

This is exactly how I feel about it. (y)
I think the rep factories are doing a stellar jobs in regard to the price and also to the fact that they cannot operate in the open.
At the end of the day it is a criminal endeavour in the PRC.
For me I don“t see the need to "optimize" anything on the appearance of the reps I own.
But each to their own.

I vote with my dollars. If it’s not what I want, I don’t buy it - Simple. Whether it’s $5, $500 or $50,000.

If a custom dial is custom made, it should fit the specifications. Sorry, but my specifications rarely are ā€œclose enough.ā€

I’m enjoying my APSF 26240. I’ve changed the crystal. I’d love to change the bezel screws, if I can manage to get them to fit.

Yes, in this age we are all truly lucky to not be wearing ticking movement bombs wrapped in pot metal. However anyone who believed close enough was good enough, would have been ecstatic with their A7750 powered AP ROCs and need not have asked for more.

This hobby, for me, has been getting more for spending less (and sometimes getting more just meant access without waiting lists). We each have our needs and wants. Some had gone so far to get custom CNC watches not too long ago. My standards (thankfully) aren’t someone else’s.
Amen, Amen we speak the same language and have the same OCD. Issue I have is not with the watch, but I would be willing to pay top dollars for a custom dial if they can fix the main couple of things. 1. the subdial rings and 2. the actual colour of the dial, which I believe is a little darker and dull on the rep compared to the Gen! ( this is my feeling I could be wrong) Also the pattern and the words "Auditors Piguet" aer not floating but sunken.

I definitely need the screws polished and aligned. I need the brushing of the the watch for a better finish. And I need a good crystal. For me, 100% 22k Gold rotor. I want a lot more for my Rep than what the factory puts out, it's the customization which I enjoy more than what I would enjoy with a stock watch as is. Of course my standard are different to others and I keep them high. 'Really good' just doesn't cut it... It must be a the top of the game (within my own limits of course)

100% I am over the moon that this watch is out! you won't believe but I have been waiting for it since 2013!! Back in those days AP ROO was the best you could get as we progress we get better, get little bit extra spending money, technology improves and then this happens. Now for me the next level of happiness would be to fix the "flaws" which are flaws to me, perhaps not to someone else. And that I believe this satisfaction of this hobby!

Think if you like it, you should get it. I think it has really good bezel screws :ROFLMAO: ... and that's one of my largest pet peeves. The other pet peeve exists on that QC, but I don't think we are scrutinizing QC pix here.

See... it's not hard for APSF to do that properly. It just irks me that they don't give a fck about releasing the initial versions with errors.

What are your other pet peeves? I'm not super picky but interested in other people's thoughts, I've probably not spotted everything.

Misaligned hour markers :) Good luck though, as hopefully they don't bother you as much as they bother me. Those bezel screws make me want to order another 26240 of the new batch though.

That would definitely bother me once I’ve spotted it. Which marker is misaligned ??

I think @legend actually does all of those ā€œuselessā€ mods for people here. And while it certainly is fair for someone to view those kinds of cosmetic mods as ā€œuselessā€ ā€œupsells,ā€ rebrushing (I am not sure I ever see it described as ā€œgen specā€) and refinishing the bracelet, screws and case can subjectively (if not objectively) make the watch look and feel better. People on this forum have spent $300 (on an $890 watch) for new bezel screws that fit MAYBE a less gen-like .5mm tighter in the bezel, because the tiny gap between the bezel and the screw annoyed them and made them enjoy the watch less, which is just fine. One of the most interesting things things for me on RWI is to see how people address all the things on these reps that irk them (and it is just as interesting to see what irks them in the first place). I guess I think people should refinish, re-work, mod, franken, etc. their rep watches (or not) based on what gives them more personal enjoyment and based on their own sense of ā€œvalue,ā€œ without worrying about whether anyone thinks they wasted their time or money. As with cars, houses, and pretty much everything else in the world, there really is no right answer when it comes to how people value things or how they decide to spend their money. In the end, one person’s ā€œupsellā€ is another’s ā€attention to detail.ā€
I think you misunderstood my post. I was actually agreeing with him. :ROFLMAO:

He knows me very well, is a long time friend and we have done MANY projects together that have not even seen the light of day publicly.

Once again to each their own! That is the beauty of this hobby.

I think all markers, hands and bezel bolts are misaligned. If you cannot RL this watch then I'd take it over for half-price. 🤣
3, 6, and 9 are the typical misaligned hour markers. Then 12. Here, only 12 looks good to

Here’s a different watch. To me the markers look better but the bezel screws look misaligned to my eye. Thoughts ??

I can RL both although dealer may be pissed off with me.

Mod edit:
Stop posting your QC pocs unless it’s approved. Nobody cares about it other than you. Keep it to yourself.

I need to talk to TWM and see if they can add all those really cool pink lines on mine before it ships to me (although maybe that will cause another 6-9 week delay).
