Yes it’s crazy - I’m already several years into vintage Rolex/Tudor and still feeling me as newbie..It's easy to make a mistake with all the different kinds (laughs).
I learn every day.Yes it’s crazy - I’m already several years into vintage Rolex/Tudor and still feeling me as newbie..
Yes they were used also for 16014 Datejusts.I am not familiar with DJs.
Is this dial appropriate for the age?
Thank you very much.Yes they were used also for 16014 Datejusts.
The big benefit on those 160xx and 162xx Datejust reference is, that they have such huge variation of different dial types that you have so much possibility, especially for all DJ lug hole models !! (non-lug-hole models were only with few dials avilable compared to lug-hole models)
See here, also 16014 DJ with this dial type (rail track dial)
I share this opinion that track dial probably came out with 162xx - but maybe the introduction was with very late 16000 models - who knows. However, I see this dial very often on the 160xx watches and I think it looks great.Do you have a more specific source for this? That track dial started being used consistently on the 162xxx range and was the default dial for that generation as far as I can tell from reference pictures. The watch in your listing is said to have come from 1978 which definitely seems to predate this type of dial. Likely a service dial that's installed later.
@intellects
My GEN 16200 from 1992 (lug hole / N7xxxxx serial) had also this train track dial with Tritium dots and the "T Swiss Made T" dial print
On the 160xx = plexi = with the 3035 movement
On the 162xx = 5 digit = sapphire with 3135 movement and the 1162xx = 6 digit also with 3135 movement
You can see lots of train track dials already be more and more common on the 162xx reference
On the 6-digits 1162xx - thiese dials were the most used ones in all color variations.
Unfortunatelly there is no "real dial guide" for all Dtejust references (we know such things and variations from Rolex)
There are lots of 160xx DJ models starting 1978 with the train track dial. (mostly black, silver, white)
On the other side, you can also see lots of late "162xx" with the older styled dials with bolder indices too.
As mentioned - Rolex has their own mysteries in using dials, indieces, ....

You are completely correct - I did not look at the printing of the dial. This one seems to be service dial, bcs just SWISS MADE, without "T" (tritium)
Must just be the lighting. The dial/movement are secure. The dial is slightly off center as I installed the crystal and then aligned the dial to center the date in the cyclops and the crystal was slightly off. It needs to rotate just a hair counter clockwise. Something I’ll probably fix once I get around to it, but I built it for my wife (she loves oversized watches on her tiny wrists) and I doubt she’ll ever notice. Is it the way the photo was taken?
The dial appears to tilt.
Wow it’s looking so good!!! Love it!
