Hello everyone.

Inspired by the 5711 thread i wanted to start this thread regarding the newly released PPF 5712 V2 with the clone movement. This waiting time for this is almost as long as the gen!

I've listed some of the mods that could be interesting for this watch. Also i am thinking of doing many of these mods, so it could be interesting to get some feedback.

1. The most important imo must be the moon disk color. As it is an obvious flaw. Here's a gen moon disk vs the stock. And not only is the color wrong, but the print is also much crisper and with small silver grains, which are more uneven in the stock one. The moon disk can maybe be raised a bit. But unsure if that's possible.

2. Thickness. I don't know if the Patek website specifies the thickness to be 8.52mm with the crystal or without. Because if it's without, then the thickness is spot on, otherwise it could be an option to thin the case a bit.

Personally i'm not sure if i will be thinning the case as it feels very thin on the wrist.

3. Another flaw is the sides on the lugs. The lugs on the gen are bevelled and polished, the PPF V2 are sharp.

4. The bracelet is smooth and nice, but could be polished and bevelled a bit more to make it even smoother.

5. A movement service could make it run more precise and prolong the life of the movement. It could be a possibility to polish the angles on the movement to make them nicer. But personally i wouldn't mod the movement esthetically.

6. Regarding the dial it could be nice to have a Buff dial instead of the stock PPF. Not because of the color, which is pretty gen like, but because it is a bit dull. It's not as lively as the gen dial. Also the markers are too angular, as the gen markers are slightly more rounded. But unfortunately no buff dial has been released so far.

Other mods?

First link mod for better articulation if necessary.

Thank you for the write-up, it’s a lovely watch. Regarding thickness I believe it’s correct, or close enough within a few 0.Xmm to make no matter. More interesting is your point on the sharp lugs, which I agree with to an extent, but I think all that needs to be done is slightly round the edges and not add any larger chamfer which would make it like a 3kf 5711 (incorrect to gen). When I get mine, I’ll also be on the look out for a substitute moon disk, or gen if one can be found at a reasonable price.

They do work on the V1, it's the PR that's faux (just an hour counter). It also wears extremely thin and has a better dial and a much better moon phase. It all depends on what matters to you.

Dial color is nice on v1 and moon disk color is better. But I don’t think it’s thinner.

Yes PR is faux

That’s a good point. Has to be done as a slight rounding.

Yes I wouldn’t be thinning the case. I also think it’s needless. It’s only a small difference.

I bought my moon disk on M2M. Maybe one can be found on chrono24 or eBay.

You're right, of course. The V2 is thinner, but not noticeably so. The V2 has a better movement, making it more gen like. Then again, it has hacking seconds, the gen doesn't. Your money, your choice;)

Bracelet first link mod can make the first links more flexible. It can be useful for a wearer with small wrists.

I have the V2 buddy, it doesn’t have hacking seconds. Gen-like in that aspect too.

Great callouts, @jm_brc_7057. I mentioned in another thread that for my personal taste, I can’t wait to wear mine proudly as is- it’s a watch under $1k with a microrotor, working PR, moonphase, and small seconds, which is honestly pretty incredible in its own right- but also appreciate the finer attention to detail one might need to pursue a higher degree of perfection. Hope to see the finished product soon!

I agree. I showed it to my friend the other day without telling him it was a rep. He has a gen 5712/1A. He wore it and stuff, but he couldn't call it out. When i told him he was amazed. Also he said that he noted that the lugs were a bit sharp, but he was under the impression that it had been polished.
