Why do I keep seeing references to the date on this watch? As far as I can see it doesn’t have a date on the dial? Also seen pictures of the movements with a date disc on them?

Nope. No date to be seen anywhere in this watch. Guess the date function is in the movement as long as the designs uses it.

So tempted to pull the trigger on one of these but don't know which!!! As an aside, how difficult would it be to swap the clasp for a non 007 one? I'd rather have a standard "OMEGA" clasp than the 007 one, where could I get one from and how difficult would it be to swap?

If I didn't already have the V1 from V6F, i'd go for the MKS model. I don't need two Spectre 300 models..lol..

We don't know just how reliable that clone movement is on the VSF. If you still insist on the super clone, maybe give it a few months to see if current owners of it face any problems with the movement. Otherwise the safer option would be the MKS.

Agreed. Plus the VSF has that horrible second hand tip flaw..

Tempted to pull the trigger on this today!! Quick question. VSF have created their super clone of the 8500 movement which, as far as I can tell, is absolutely fantastic and looks identical to the gen. How far off the is the MKS movement? Theirs is a much more reliable and trusted 2824 movement which has been decorated to look like the 8500. From looking at the back of the watch, how obvious is it that the MKS movement isn't gen?

It is very obvious as the A2824 has the balance wheel in a complete different position compared to the gen movement.

The V6F super clone of 8400 is not an actual coaxial movement for anyone concerned about it. Its a traditional Swiss lever so I wouldn't expect much of a reliability issue or problem having serviced by a trusted smith.
