I sat out in the garage all morning (pretending to be working) waiting for the mail carrier so I could intercept this treasure. All I can say is, wow! This is without a doubt the nicest watch (bar none, rep or gen) I've ever owned. Chris and company have outdone themselves in both service and product. I have never seen a "real" DSSD but I can't imagine it could look much better. I am not a DSSD expert but even if it was 100% incorrect I would have to say that at USD $148 (DG2813 version) this has got to be considered one of the best buys (if not the best) on the rep market, in my newbie opinion.

For a Rolex this is truly a massive watch weighing in at 216 gm which is almost 100 gm heavier than the usual Submariner rep The fit and finish is superb, the band exudes quality, and the glide-lock clasp operates as smooth as butter. The bezel has a mirror-like glossy finish, nicely engraved numerals and markings, and the pearl is not a bulbous zit like some versions and glows a nice pure blue as do the hour markers and hands.

It has been said that "a picture is worth a thousand words" so enough of my rambling, on to the pix!

congratulations on a stunning buy!... for the money it is awesome. And cosmetically hey its a v5 DSSD. I think I agree that this is a rep bargain. If it (god forbid) ever goes wrong that DG is an inexpensive replacement ($15 from Ofrei). I actually saw footage of a high beat dg sweep and it was pretty good. Win win...

Excellent review and pics, JMB! I agree with you that the V5 for $148 is a spectacular deal. This one is definitely on my short list. Thanks for sharing, you got a great piece. Take care!

That is about the best centered date wheel Ive seen on a SDDS as it arrived from the dealer.
Very nice watch, wear it in good health!

Hey. Did you email Chris for the DSSD asian DG2813 version. I couldn't find it on his site. Both this & new Summer Blue Sub ceramic v2. is not up on his site. I said it before & i'll say it again. That's alot of watch for the price. great value. That movement is cheap. Chris, did your receive your dg4813 movement's from Chris yet? Have you had time to go about swapping the NoobSub. mvnt. yet to see if the hands fit? Just curious bro. ;)

TKD540Kick, no I haven't gotten them yet and I'm glad you mentioned it as I need to figure out what happened to them. Right now I just put a DG2813 in it which is inm reality an upgrade from what was in there!

On this I think you have to request the different movement and they also offer it with a DG4813 but the 2813 sweeps smooth enough for me.

CBR, I agree with you about the date wheel. It also clicks over much more "cleanly" than the usual really cheap a21j movements.

Fiddo, I'll give your offer some serious thought! ;-)

I believe they take different hands as the pinions are different diameters.

Can you tell me more? Is this an update to the smurf mariner cerachrome blue? I just ordered a cerachrome blue.. :unsure2:

Dr.verylong

Don´t be confused...
The Cerachrom Blue Sub is already updated, if you get it from Hont. :)

v1 - wrong color of the dial and bezel....too light. And it comes with a GMT-IIc bracelet & clasp. (totally wrong)
v2 - right color, but wrong lume (green) wrong clasp (wrong diving extension), etched markings on the clasp.
v3 - the one I reviewed, with correct blue lume, correct GlideLock Clasp, and deeply engraved markings on the clasp.

Cheers,
Spirit.

It's a nice watch, but $148 US? It's listed at $298 US. You must have a whopper of a coupon code or something? How'd you get it for $148?

Congratulations on a great watch! I got mine a couple of days ago and I´m happy enough with it. Mine had the clone 2836 movement, but I paid $ 298 for it. Didn´t know the difference in movement was that great.

There is a considerable price difference between movements.

No coronet. The majority of the etched coronets on reps are so visible it's better to not even have one. This is another detail that maybe someday the factories will get it right!

On the timesshop.net ULTIMATE version, the coronet is really really hard to see...

Do you think it is possible to get the bezel with insert from this V5 and put it on V4?
