I agree, always room for reps
We spend some time every year at our house in Mexico, and although it’s somewhat safe, it’s still an area where I wouldn’t wear my gens. Hense the purpose of rep Rolex’s
Obvious flaws irritates me, and I tend to focus more on the flaw, then actually enjoy the watch. That’s why, I within reason, enjoy modding and frankening. Plus when you are used to gens, something like a rep crystal just wont do
thank you very much for the list. I’ve just ordered a v10 with bracelet from Li, and based on how it looks irl, and if I actually like the watch on the wrist, I have a couple of things on the list to get me going.
Using reps as “test pilots” just makes sense, especially when most of the watches I’m interested in, are very hard to get. I have somewhat easy access to Rolex sports models due to a small town, and a purchase history. But AP and PP is in another league, as you know, and the waiting is significantly longer. I don’t mind going gray for a watch I really want. But I would hate to waste money on a model I don’t really like after a couple of weeks. A good example is my 3K 5167. I got a very nice one, with a gen strap and ZF clasp, and I really do like the watch, would I ever spend 35-40.000 on the gray for this watch, no never.... it’s just not worth it imo, it’s a very underwhelming watch, based on my personal taste.
next on my list is a 5177 white dial, I love the look of the watch, but taking a rep out for a test drive before dropping 60.000 just makes good sense to me
(I saw the one you sold a couple of weeks back, but wasn’t fast enough
Eiter way, this is a very interesting hobby that I’m very glad I stumbled upon, it does gives us watchlovers some advantages in regards to enjoying hard to get timepieces.
thanks for the rundown
legend I really do appreciate it
