Let's make the first 'fake' to pass breitling!

Smids has the sources to do this without permission. And if he pulls it off, he can sell the now-certified gen at a nice profit ... I think. It may cost more to build from sourced parts than to buy a used gen.
In any case, if he pulls it off he'd be unwise to publicize it. If it fails or, worse, if Breitling passes it then gets word of it, the hobby will suffer.
I vote no on this one, Smidsy.

Even putting gen parts in reps sometimes seems pointless to me. The whole idea behind reps is making a watch look close to gen as possible. Try improving rep parts to look like gen. Now that is a task.
Anyhow, this is a forum. Members are entitled to express their opinions, thoughts, and ideas. Afterall, a forum is a terrible thing to waste.

OK guys I have read every post; and I'm contacting Mods to get this locked down. You all made some VERY valid points....

This is half joke and half experiment. My plan was to send this to breitling with a rep case so not a complete 'gen'.

The thing is someone already mentioned it's only a matter of time before someone else does somethign similar and heavily publicises it; whereas my plan was to get it 'certified' and then just post a thread titles 'yes' or 'no'.

And yes I had my slot booked on BBC breakfast to announce it to the world

as mr Yesterday (I think) said this is not for profit, or gain. This is to see whether or not breitling's "we have and will never certify a fake" is really honestly true.

It also gets back at all the people who say a rep can never be gen.

I will contact mods and admin before I attempt everything and I'm glad to see some people here know that I would listen, read and be advised before acting....
