A Franken SA was sold on another forum and the only non gen part was the case back.

The guy that built it wouldn't be so stupid as to try a stunt like this and put our hobby at such risk for his own gratification, I guess this speaks volumes for some people.

Smidsy, you are nuts my friend, I know someone that several years ago shoved a fake vintage Fender Stratocaster under Fender's nose, about a month later all hell was unleashed on him, and he was smoking his socks at the time. A huge mistake as he would attest, no doubt the guitar ticked all the right boxes, but there is always someone at the manufacturer who can spot a fake.

As awesome as I think it would be, I bet this would not only put our hobby in jeapordy, but it would piss off the dealers.

slapping them with a dead trout? Hmmm, this could lead to a red herring.

I would be all for this if we had someone from Breitling that was actually rep-firendly to confirm that its gen-quality, and leave it at that. As laid out though, I think that going to an AD with it isn't a good idea...we should try and keep as low a profile as possible. As pointed out, it would be a shame if the supply of gen parts dwindled out because of something like this.

Btw. You all realize this whole thread was a joke right ..... :)

Right...

Thats why it didnt start out "hypothetically..." or something similar. Or it could have been in the looney bin?

You could also take donations to put your project together, sell the watch, and donate the proceeds to rwi. Just a stupid good thought and gesture.

Allright now....everyone calm down.

Just a little lapse in judgement by Smids. People have seemingly great ideas once in a while that turn out to bad.

I'm sure he's read all this and reconsidered. Let's leave it at that.

I am a noob, but I have to disagree with the OP - this course of action seems pointless.

I'm still relatively new to this hobby, but it seems to me by doing this it could open up a very unnecessary can of worms indeed!

I thought it might be fun... but considering how it would provoke the watch companies to crack down on OEM parts and rep factories... I say lets not go there...

I think it would be interesting to find out if Smids could actually pull it off, nut I don't think it's worth risking the hobby for. IMHO of course!
