Speaking only for myself, of course, but some of us collect knives just as we collect watches and other things: We don't need them, we just want them.
I spend a fair amount of time in the outdoors, so knives are useful tools.
I have a half dozen small folders, too.
In seriousness I carry either of the three as back up at work

I just love the fact it's not made to stab or impale....
It's very specific in its use...cut tendons and make circle cuts (a circle cut would be like if someone punched you and you hooked their wrist with the blade to block the punch and deflect it. Not only would you block/deflect, but it would cut from one side of the wrist to the other bleeding the person out quickly).
And Emerson Karambits are razor sharp... I have quite a few scars from practicing gone wrong to prove it
With just learning even the basic moves a Karambit goes from being a good defensive blade to being a full out precision combat weapon.

I came across these, I swear to God, in a comic book about 15 years ago. It was "The Punisher" and I think I still have that comic... I hope.

Man, I've been asking for a sprint run for years, now they have one. Its sold out, and I cannot spend $200+ on a knife with our 1st baby around the corner. :facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

It is what it is my friend. It's honorable that you're accepting your responsibilities as a new Dad and you do already own an original Lum tanto.
Then again, you're first baby is deserving of something celebratory... a new knife perhaps??

5.11/Steve Tarani Karambit
Bought this brand new for $30. Retail at the time was around $120. This is, more or less, a substitute for the elusive Emerson Super Karambit I've been wanting to buy. It uses the "Spyderco" back lock which, in retrospect, might have been a deal breaker but $30 was a steal.

Though... That wave feature (the pocket open) is sooo nice with a Karambit

Timberline's Kelly Worden Design Tactical folder or "Wortac".
Relatively inexpensive now, if you can find it. This model has been discontinued.
It's a BIG folder, 9.5". The blade keeps a good edge for AUS-8. Nice curvature. The finger choil, sub hilt and jimping provide a good grip. I really like the fact that the handle, by design, can be used as an impact weapon.
I have also heard that "Datu" Worden is a bit of a douche bag but that's neither here nor there...
