Just how pointless is the DSSD?

I fully expect to get flamed for this question, but here goes.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the deepest confirmed Scuba descent is 330m, or 1082ft. (Guess where this is going.....). This is absolutely exceptional, and goes well beyond the range of anything most divers would ever dream of.

The DSSD has a rating of 3900m, 12800ft. That is to say approximately twelve times the world record dive. That is akin to designing a supercar that could exceed 800mph. It's insane!

IMHO, this goes completely beyond any rational marketing ploy. It is of no earthly use to any anyone.

So my question is simple. WHY?

(Hint. There is no prize for the first person to say 'Who cares? They look cool!)

A number of cars can go 200mph, but will most probably never reach that speed.

I think perhaps customers just want a bigger Rolex (yeah, my rolex is bigger than yours!)

In other news: this car [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ThrustSSC"]ThrustSSC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] breaks sound barrier (top speed 763mph) .

It's not pointless, it provides satisfaction to the user with the exceptional build quality and performance.
Like my home PC, I installed 3 GTX 680 in SLI, 16 GB of OC memory, 3x SSD in RAID + several 2 TB in RAID plus a processor that doesn't even reach 20% load in real time applications, plus 3D Vision surround monitors even if I don't play as many games lately. Do I use it at full power? No. I just run benchmarks glazing at the amazing performance it has. Is it pointless? Hell no, I get all excited every time I hear all the 17 fans in the case starting and looking at the Skyrim in 3D Vision reaching frame rates way above what's neecesary.

^^^lives in mom and dad's basement^^^

Just not married :) I can still buy all the toys I want and don't have to match the drapes with the wall color. Recently started planing building a semicircle wall in one of the rooms for a 3D Vision screen and use 3 projectors for it.

Why so many flavors of lunch meat?

The roast turkey at the deli is delicious but it's four times the price of Bologna! Who really "needs" turkey when Bologna is nutritionally sufficient.

The DSSD is pointless and the whole "Ring Lock..." thing is ugly! The previous Sea-Dweller was a high water mark for Rolex. They screwed up!
