Hey guys, I gust got into a world renowned business school. It was not easy. Hard work, good recommendations and a bit of luck.

Now... the most important question! What watch do I wear on my first day?

I am in my mid-late 20s. I have done alight, but have not made a tremendous amount of money. I could afford a gen under 5k, but we are talking reps here!

Comments please!

If you can afford a 5Kish gen, I would opt for the rep of either a Submariner Ceramic, or perhaps a PAM111, if you like those?

Which school? Strathclyde? I can only imagine you're going to get called out like crazy in this situation.

Big deal.

You are a kid. Don't worry about watch. Cell phone is good enough.

School is stateside ;)
You can't go bad with a submariner.

subs always make me worried... I am never quite sure if some one can call out the tells on one. Plus I would love a watch that is only recognized by some one who knew what it was. Pam's are great, just would hate to wind it every day

Nonsense!!! Some rolex reps are virtually impossible to distinguish from the real thing unless you have unlimited amounts of time on your hand to inspect the thing and a loupe to boot. Not to mention that you must know what it is you are looking at and for which most people don't.

PAM111 is accurate, wont have to wind everyday. For subs, none of those nimrods will know how to spot a fake right off the wrist...most gen owners don't know what damn year their watch was made in, yet alone, tells of a rep.

I am afraid I am treading into the lion's den. This is a group of people that get what they want, and some will probably be enthusiasts. I will be spending great amounts of time with the same people, whould hate to be called out.

Go for the new IWC laureus sport for good foundation. its really a high class watch for a business man.
And if you're not Sylvester Stallone or Rambo stay away from any Panerai watch or other big sport watches.

I do have smaller wrists...
That is a watch with a lot of class. I love the domed saffire - didnt realize reps of that were possible.

What is the power reserve on a 111?

Gen 3570.50 Moonwatch.

I don't care what school you go to, if you wear a Rolex ( rep or gen), you're just gonna look like a pompous ass if you're in your 20's.

Moonwatch is much more understated, elegant and cool.

I suspect that this will be an environment where you'll have at least a couple of serious watch enthusiasts, and who are naturally competitive and will surely be eyeing any fancy watch that you might have, so the call out risk will be much higher than amongst the general population. I would suggest a TC Submariner with a gen insert.

This is a prestigeous business school, it'll be full of pompous asses. But I do like the idea of a gen Speedmaster Pro, I don't think I would mark the accomplishment of being admitted to a competitive professional program by buying a rep, irrespective of how accurate it is.

You don't have to be one of them. And if it is full of them, you sure as hell don't want to be called out with a rep anything. Get a used gen moonie for $2k.

Exactly. Then after you graduate and get hired by Goldman/MS/Bain/KKR, you can buy yourself an IWC Portuguese Chrono/Daytona/Zenith with your first bonus check to legitimately say that you've "arrived".

There are so many watches you could buy... Go gen if you can. I'd suggest a used Rolex Explorer I, or a nice IWC. Or get something that can be an interesting conversation piece, like a nice Eberhard or any other understated niche brand. I'd stay clear of the usual suspects, like subs etc. Avoid Panerai at all costs. By the way, you will probably see a few moon watches, bond watches and the like. SMPs in particular.

And of course, congratulations on your admission!

I too went to a top business school to read banking and finance and the guys there are pretty clued up about watches, so while you will fool them if they arent on the forums youll always feel a bit on the outside, so if you can afford it Id buy a gen, even an Omega SMP quartz is only $1000 used or $1400 for the auto, afterall it is a great achievement.

Maybe a gen Rolex to "Crown your achievment" is a bit too much now, but certainly when you get a banking job later you wont celebrate that with a rep I imagine, so why not start now if funds allow.
