I started my watch journey with only gens. A few vintage Omegas, a proper Speedy, and a Grand Seiko Shunbun. Then I found the world of reps and it shifted my collecting philosophy completely.
If reps COULD be at the level of CF RLX productions, because let's be honest CF makes some damn good RLX reps, then any gens I get should be something that reps just can't do. (Think something like GS and their Spring Drive mechanism). Reps got me to think more about why I like watches, what makes me like a watch, and made me be more picky about what I buy in gen.
Sure when I wear reps, I get the little voice in the back of my head that says "gen is gen", but as many have stated in this thread, at least I didn't pay the price of a gen. I use my money to create new experiences IRL, fund my ski addiction, or just set it aside to buy a grail watch that reps can't make. I'm looking at you ALS
