The question for today is:

"What do you prefer: collectioning a set of reps, or getting few gens,
and does your REP'S invested money till today alredy could buy to you some gens?"

If I understand your question correctly,

yes, I'd much rather have 10-20 nice reps than a nice gen...

He means is it worth buying so many reps that you could afford a gen or two.

EDIT BD beat me to it :)

Depending on the Gen and the individual, you may never acquire that gen, enter the rep.

I find that I prefer to wear my favorite watches. I sold most of my reps to buy a couple of gens. They get lots of wrist time and I enjoy them much more than the many reps that they replaced.

Of the four reps I still have, one will eventually be replaced by the gen (U2 EZM5 Black) and the others are pretty obscure (a 113, a Hanhart and a mini fiddy fantasy) and sit in a drawer for the most part.

So for me, one gen is more satisfying than 10 reps.

Just my $0.02 USD as always.

def not. owning a gen is > owning a bunch of reps.

To each his own I guess...

Knowing how nice the available reps are, I have no interest in ever owning a gen again...

I certainly respect your opinion though...

I got into collecting.because of the craftsmanship of the movements. I do own some limited ED. gens. I do really enjoy the rep world. I thought I would feel good about not having a gen on my wrist, but I don't!! Call me vain. Will I ever buy another gen?? I might, but for the moment, "SHOW ME THE REPS!!!"

I have both gens and reps and could easily have had another one or two gens instead of buying my rep collection. BUT reps today are so good it's difficult to justify the extra few thousand for the gen versions. I also like to choose my watch depending on my mood and what I'm wearing so I like to have a nice varied choice and I wouldn't be able to afford to have the likes of JLC and breguet sitting in my watchbox waiting for the right occasion if they were gens.

It's nice to have a gen or two for those times you need to look, and be, legit though.

I have a couple of gens, but after seeing firsthand the quality of these reps- I say now that reps are the way for me.
I can't justify putting all that money in Rolex or AP's pockets for their elaborate marketing tactics.
I mean, have you ever gone into an Omega store? Holy markup Batman, and no discounts-I mean, it's a SS watch ffs.

hello boris, I understood your English just fine...Welcome to RWI Sir. Here is my opinion. I have been from replica to genuineabd back several times. Whilst there is a ceritan amount if pride in owning the real thing, I much prefer to own several...and several morereplica watches that way I get to experiance several different models and enjoy them without spending a lot of money... I can buy a lot of replicas for $4000.

Good Luck,

Rob

yes thanks guys....thats realy interesting...
i also spended till now around amm 3000$
got around 9 watches from it, and it maby can buy an used SUB bad condition
but also wearing gen is nice feeling for some times hehe
hard to decide :)

The rep's come good thougth on the high price watches
like patek...hublot..ap...
The % you pay for the rep is a joke for the real deal
and for my opnion its setisfying...

i used to have some gens. kept my submariner when i sold the rest; still have it. i wore it reguraly for 6-7years. it sits in a box now. i wear it maybe a day or two in 6 months. until i found the progress that the rep makers have made i didn't wear a nice watch much. but i found panerai and good pam reps. bought a few of the new rolleis too. i like the pam's especially. i am going to keep buying them, i need at least a few more :) so i would much rather have say 10 reps than a used lower tier gen. 2k goes a long way with reps. but in the gen world? not so far. i do feel like gen makers are asking too much for their products as well.

I'm a big lover of the Pam 005 and Breitling SO abyss reps they are such good reps there is no way I could justify the extra $ for gen.

I could have a complete collection of all current super reps for the price of a gen! We are spoilt for choice with such high quality copies, get collecting!

I was collecting GENS, but they are quite pricey and I was only able to achieve 1 or 2 used models per year; I have 15.

But since I have found RWI, I have collected REPS every since; I have owned and sold over 50! I guess I may have been able to afford 2 or 3 more GENS instead.

I will keep my GENS, but with the quality of the new REPS, it is no more GENS for me - right now. I will continue my collections of REPS.

Well the factors are many...

If you have the money and you can buy whatever gen you want then you just buy them...
If you dont have the money
1.and you like to have several watches cause you changing them, then you may think going for reps
2. if you want to have a nice gen watch to wear all the time or to pass to your son you buy one or several gens depending on your budjet instead of 40-50 or something like that...

So its one of those topics where you will get many points of view...

I have to make sure I always keep a nice gen for each of my children. Imagine their disappointment when I pass on and they try to cash in on my $500k watchbox only to find they're all reps! At least this way they still get a very nice consolation prize...

I was at a watch show in Newport R.I. There was a vendor..Baddolet. You create your watch. movement, dial strap, materials. Each watch was a one of a kind.My creation came in at 240,000!!! Even if I could, no f'n way It's a watch!!! There is no right or wrong answer. For a while I got into Invicta. I could buy many watches for not alot. The quality is good for the price, but when you open one up, they are using alot of parts that our rep factories are using. So now I buy reps. Boris, I meant no dis respect. Welcome!!!
