Well if you need anything serviced or modded, send me a pm and ill send you his number. He’s been building a tourbillon minute repeater from a roger dubuis rep tourby and a dubois depraz minute repeater module which is a great little project! I wish i had those kind of skills...

Oh god, now you got my attention! Ask him pictures!

Wow.. That's amazing. How does the minute repeater module came about? Is not something common you can pop on to an ETA, just fascinated you can part it as a part.

He bought a whole pocket watch just for the module. Apparently the modules are quite expensive but he got the whole pocket watch at a fair price and every proper watch guy wants a minute repeater, lets be honest. Apparently you literally can just pop it on an eta! Dont ask me how its way above my skill level but the only issue he has so far is the cannon pinion is slipping on the tourby movement.

That Patek looks pretty damn amazing for a rep. I don’t know much about pateks but the only major tell to me is the edges of the bridges not being beveled and polished but that’s a PATEK. Oh and I really wish these factories would either use better quality screws or stop mucking them up. Over tightening them and scratching them to hell.

What movement is the rep based on? I read it was the Miyota but that looks waay better than a miyota and that definitely doesn’t look like just a deco plate.

Forget about the 324 clone haha. This is way more exciting! Interesting insight. Thanks for sharing. And you are absolutely right. And i'm sure you have the backing of many of us, when saying a minute repeater is one of the biggest dreams! Would love to get one some day, but they are on a whole other price level unfortunately.

Yeah a minute repeater really is top of the tree of cool stuff! Keep an eye out for small sizes pocket watches with one on ebay. If you can identify that if had this dupraz module then it will definitely fit inside a watch. May end up being a slightly thicker watch than it was before but it will make cool noises! He reckons if the project goes well he will start offering them for sale. But ive already claimed my place firmly at the top of the waiting list :)

Oh man. That’s interesting. Please make him put me on second spot :p
Would love to have one too.

Yeah I’ve heard of it before that people have converted them to wrist watches but it’s first time I’ve heard someone pulling out the module and converting a wrist watch :D it’s great really.

I guess the size of the module is a lot smaller than a pocket watch movement so that helps a lot when putting it in a wrist watch. Some of the pocket watch conversions are huge! The fact that this module fits in a 42mm watch is a huge selling point. Minute repeaters are not cheap as we all know, it would be nice if he could package it all up in a nice way for a few grand or so.

Yeah that could be fantastic if it could be done at that price range!
Yeah some of them are 50mm and upwards. It’s way too much for a wrist watch. 42mm is impressive if he succeeds.

Typically to become a trusted watchsmith here you need to have a Certification 21 (I checked into it....)

I am a hobbyist and have become very familiar with the non-chrono ETAs, 6497s, and some Seiko movements. Next up is the 4130 once the service book arrives!

I also have a 3K 5167 incoming so I will have to dissect that one too!

I have no idea what a certification 21 is but ill let steve know. To be honest, hes not really that bothered either way. Obviously more work is nice, hassle not so much.

Its fun taking watches apart though isnt it! Im very confident with 2824’s and 2836’s now, but my criteria for watches to work on are:
A. I need to own them, preferably more than one.
B. Parts need to be available.

As great as it would be to be a master watch maker, im pretty happy with being able to service and repair the 10 or so 28xx watches i have. Other stuff like chronos and tourbillons i just send to steve! For now... haha!

I’ll tell you what it’s super addicting. Every week I find myself buying some new tool...which the wife loves!!

I think there are plenty of people who send their watch off to “non certified” watch-smiths. Just because you are not certified does not mean you don’t know what your doing! But RWI can’t take that risk with having supporting vendors like that not certified.
I would be fine servicing ETA movements (minus the 7750). 6497 is about as easy as they come too.

CW21 is essentially classes and then final tests to become a watchmaker. I’m not even sure if you could do it all remotely, or if it is classroom activities.

A man can never have enough tools! I got the horotec novodiac spring tool, still prefer putting it in with tweezers but every time i learn theres a tool for something im very interested haha!

Its just a guess but id say there are probably at least 10x more people on here than TRF that service their own watches. If not more! Thats the fun of reps to me, if you ruin it, its normally a relatively in expensive fix. Even a whole new movement or watch wont break the bank. Slip with the tweezers inside a gen rolex and the bills will soon stack up though.

Even a Rolex 3132 isn’t a terribly hard movement to break down.

Chronos are the beasts!

I received both my 3k 5711s and both will have the datewheel upgrades and Crown mods when ready. The movement quality is excellent IMO. They are fab watches!! I am now selling mine on the forum.

I've looked over the pics of the disassembled 324 in this thread as well as taken my own 324's mainspring bridge off to inspect up close; I may be mistaken, but I am not seeing a ratchet/click/clutch lever to hold the mainspring tension. My 324 exhibits behavior that leads me to believe that a click or clutch lever is not present in my watch; with the crown in the winding position and with a fairly full wind, the crown will slowly rotate CCW on it's own. And if I pull the crown to the date or time setting position, the entire mainspring loses tension (you can hear a very audible 'zzzzzziiiiippppp' when this happens). If someone is familiar with the 324 and could please point out the lever necessary to prevent the mainspring from losing tension, I'd be forever grateful :D

Thanks kindly!
