How well can the pams handle water?

Suddenly I got the urge to swim with my reps. Stupid I know.

I just want to wear my babies all the time, even to the beach. And I am afraid to leave it on the towel when taking a swim.

Has anybody out there tested their out of the box Pam with water?

I am thinking of buying one of the newer cheap reps (like the 111J or 005/318) because I don't want to mess up my swiss 111h which is way more expensive to repair if it fails.

Is it an extremely bad idea or is there a chance that it will work?

there was a member sales thread recently where one of the mods was selling his 026k, and it pressure tested to around 9atm i think. I'm not sure if he took it apart though and greased it and serviced it first.

Search!!!

Take it to a watchmaker and have them pressure test it. Don't trust TD claims.

My 177 is coming from Angus soon and that baby will be going in the water... Click on my "Trust your dealer..." thread on the bottom of my sig to follow when it goes in the water out of the box.

That would be moronic unless you've specifically asked Angus to check it
These are reps people

I have read all that stuff. Main reason for posting another thread was to perhaps get some input from members who actually have tested it. I don't care about the TD claims but I value the claims and info from the members here very high.

If every question could be solved by searching we could all stop posting and just use the search function. And also the wristshot section would be pointless as we can search for old pictures of the watches instead...

I reformulate my question to this instead:

Have any of you been swimming with your pams? Any out of the box pams, or did you mod it - and if modded, what did you do?

Yeah moronic if you didn't trust your dealer who guarantees it...

I've done so with Lay and now giving Angus a shot... building confidence for people and the dealers.

The reason I said search is because after doing so you would've realised that reps are reps and are not subject to strict quality control. Thus reps are likely to vary from one watch to the next. Swimming or otherwise without testing is likely to invite disappointment!

Urgghhhh take it from someone who just bought 10 watches from the same dealer. They vary from watch to watch!

Okay you bought the watch from a dealer (angus or lay? ) and what you had it pressure tested and it failed? If not then what's your point?

My point is the quality control is non existent

Frankly I couldn't give a **** if your rep fails water resistance but for any future readers I'd like to suggest they spend a measly sum of cash and have their local watcher maker pressure test their new prized possession just is case an o-ring has been forgotten or inadvertently crimped. This will give the new owner piece of mind and confidence. Faith in dealers is misplaced.

FACTS VS FICTION

Got it... Thanks. So of the 10 watches you bought you really don't know if they were water resistant or not. Nor do you know whether there was a problem with the build.

Merely what you are trying to say is CAUTION TO THOSE WHO BUY BECAUSE OF QC PROBLEMS THAT YOU READ ON THE FORUMS.

What I am trying to say is "Swim with confidence" if you trust your dealer. I have placed my orders and gained trust in my dealers... and they have reassured me as well. So far I have

A DSSD passed out of the box, A PO from China & Sub from Timshop Greased & both passed.... and more coming to test from Angus to test out of the box.

Yeah if you've got faith that your dealer has taken particular care than it's likely to be fine. Many people take the broad statements on dealer websites as gospel though and this is dangerous

You're deluding yourself with that video btw. How many ATMs do you think are being exerted on the watch? **** all is the reality.

Get your watches checked and gain certainty. Assume and risk disappointment.

Deluding? It's just a sample... My brother swam with it for a week doing hundreds of laps on the pool...

I admire you safeguarding the readers. But I'm out to prove a point that reps are at the point where waterproofing shouldn't be an issue.

I'll just post the Facts from experiment and from which dealer.

Okay man....

I don't think either of us trying to do the wrong thing by people here and I want to commend you for your efforts. However, I do think it comes down to you saying you'll test and that is proof and me saying that reps lack quality control and therefore testing a single unit is not a large sample enough group for readers to draw conclusions. Absolutely nothing wrong with you publishing your findings but people should be cautious regardless of your outcomes

Play it safe and grease everything up first, even if the dealer did it for you. Pressure test if you really want to be sure. Well worth the few minutes and $20 it takes to be absolutely sure.

I gotta say I agree entirely with "smascarinas"

I swam literally out the box no greasing or modding of any sort with my DSSD and my PO Chrono I swim daily at the gym (sauna too) and as yet (4 months down the line) with the DSSD no problems at all
