OK.. Did a google search.

There are two groups..

It's either Brai-tling (Ah-EE sound like Bright), or Bray-tling (Eh-EE sound like Ray).

Why did I get myself into this... argh... :x

Brite-ling.
Pronunciation is in the ear of the beholder.
Every culture pronounces words differently.
No biggy. Unless you're french. Then it's a biggy.

I believe you should aspire to pronounce words in the closest way you can get to the way native speakers pronounce them. It simply isn't elegant to speak French with a blunt American accent, imho it's a lot more elegant to at least try and come closer to the way a french man (or preferably woman) would say it. And then of course, there's german which is just plain fun to pronounce right, then everything sounds like a command: HOY-ER!!!

A few other corrections (didn't have that french in school for nothing after all). :lol

Audemars Piguet - aw-de-MAR, PEE-geh

Baume & Mercier - bome eh mair-cyay (The & is written as 'et')

Girrard Perregaux - jir-ard per-re-go

A. Lange & Sohne - A. lahng unD zoo-nah

Le Coultre - luh-kool-treh

Piaget - pee-uh-jeh (with a real french 'j', like in 'je t'aime' )

Vacheron & Constantin - VASH-er-on eh CON-stan-ten

Apart from those, they are correct. 8)

I think a company's brand should be spelled in it's origin language.
Which would be mainly french and german (switzerland).

Or you just pronounce it the way you want. Who really cares?

Tak, I noticed that there's a sticky on pronounciation over on the FAQ with a link to that chronometrie site. Would there be any way to open that thread up to add in the material from Dukie's original post from TZ? I've actually found that guide a lot more useful than the chronometrie link.

And on Panerai-- it's pronounced HUUU-ge BULK-ee WAA-tch.

There was a huge discussion about this on TZ shortly after Casino Royale came out. The consensus was that Omeeega was the correct way to pronounce the company's name. Among other reasons, Omega paid lots and lots and lots of money for their product placement. I'm relatively confident they wouldn't have spent all that money to have their watch be featured as what essentially amounted to a plot point (albeit a quick, throw-away plot point), only to have the main character mispronounce it.

I've also heard that Americans are the only ones in the world who pronounce the word omega as oh-MA-ga. In Europe and Australia, I've been told they pronounce it like Bond. I'm not sure about this one, myself, as I've heard people from England pronounce the word as OH-ma-ga.

Yup, In Europe Bond is right, Is it something to do with those College Fraternities we here about (you know Bang Kappa Tau etc :D )

If you walk into Bergdorf Goodman with a $100,000 and up, budget for wristwatches (which you will need if you are purchasing these watches) I'm sure you need not aspire to anything other then, Put it in a bag, Please.
Tomato, Tamaaahtoe, Potato, PahTahToe,
Lets call the whole thing off.

Heh. I agree with ZoSo. In my experience, most ADs are some of the most unctous and sycophantic people you'll ever be likely to meet in sales. You walk in brandishing an Amex black card, and they'll let you call the watch anything you please and smile happily.

"Patek Philippe - pa-tek fee-leep"

I don't agree with this one either......I pronounced it that way at an AD and the lady acted like she didn't know what the hell I was talking about. The times I've actually heard someone else say it was more like

Pat-ick Fee-leep
