Also they're not really socialist... there is a difference between pure socialism and a socialist based democracy :)

What do they mean 4.2 million loosing coverage? Are they also gonna loose access to health care like those 45.000 people who currently die annually in US because they can't get medical attention?

Just for clarification, for those not in the US, the individuals losing coverage are losing it because:

1. They are probably not getting healthcare through their employer and are paying for their own insurance, like a lot of freelance workers or private business owners, and
2. those plans they are paying for do not meet the minimum requirements that the law now requires all plans to provide, such as maternity care (mens plans too) or mental health benefits.

They were paying for coverage on their own, and now must pay for a policy that meets the minimum standard. Those policies, generally speaking, are significantly more expensive than the ones they had.

I hope that was a politically neutral explanation.

Just as a sub note these are the countries that are considered to have a democratic socialist political system today... they also have the highest standard of living:
Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland

Beg a pardon, sweden norway and finland have right wing leadership.

That is as neutral as it gets. I agree.

Now the insurance companies wont be able to sell hollow coverage to people which didn't cover lots of basic medical necessities.

I still do not agree with people being forced to buy coverage. I know lots of people who don't seek medical help because of their religious beliefs. These people will not go to doctors no matter what. I dont see them using their insurance. Why make these people pay?

Jesus christ, not another one of these threads. Boo ******* hoo, some people lost their insurance, that was on the part of insurance companies, they discontinued the plans and either way, usually you can get a better new plan.

Also, turn off Faux News Mr. Independent.

I find it really ridiculous when people say this socialist crap. Is Canada a socialist country? Is the UK socialist? No, but they both have universal healthcare. That is really one of the most misleading arguments I've heard.

Really don't know where you were from 2000-2008 if you think Obama is the worst president, hes not the one who took us into two wars and wrecked our economy. Hes the one who took of out of one of those wars and is taking us out of the other, with the economy getting better by the day,
Yes, Canada and UK are socialist countries. Absolutely. By the way, ask your parents, why they escaped from socialist USSR? I'm sure not because of anti-semitism, because there were no such a thing, I lived there, I know. You don't.
Turn off MSNBC and Huffington Post, Mr. Communist.

Not YET. But we're on the way to it.

If we as a country will convert to socialism because of one man's beliefs, we never had a right to be a democratic country. As long as masses don't join him(That is if Obama really wanted United States to be a socialist society), we always will be a free country.

I have tendency to be positive in all situations(unless shipping on my watch takes forever, i loose it then) and these are MY beliefs.

Let us keep it civil people. No need to name calling. Boss will send this discussion to loonie if we don't keep it civil. This threads are always very good and insightful where you get to know different opinions. These threads are only good until they turn personal. It turns to shit and boring afterwards.

What? My parents left the USSR because the economy was collapsing and yes there was anti-semitism and there still is. My mother was the best student in her school by ranking and got blocked from going to the top schools because she was Jewish so I don't know what kind of bubble you are living in.

Almost all top scientists, engineers, actors, entrepreneurs, writers, and even some politicians were Jews in USSR. I can provide the names, but you don't know it. Don't tell me about anti-semitism, I lived there. You didn't.

Agree with you. But almost 50% of US population would be happy with socialism - foodstamps, no need to work, Gov't provide everything. I just hope this nightmare will end soon.

I would love for you to provide me the names and then proof that they were actually Jewish. I didn't need to live there, my parents lived there, and they personally experienced it.

Your so called "nightmare" won't end any time soon, until the Republican party puts up a candidate that isn't crazy or says stuff like 47% of the country doesn't matter. The Republicans are getting worse and worse. They believe that their tea party candidates will help them win, when it's really the opposite. If you are watching the news right now, you'd actually see that the tea partiers like Cruz are downplaying Chris Christie's victory because they don't want to acknowledge that moderate Republicans have a better chance of winning an election.

I don't know where you got that 50% of people want to live on food stamps and government assistance. You must have never been on those programs if you think that they allow you to live a comfortable lifestyle. Most people want to, or need to work to maintain a certain lifestyle.

Chris Christie is their only chance and hope come 2016 against Clinton. He is the only republican at the moment who can appeal to indipendants and lations. Teabaggers can't win national elections.

Luth, i have to respectfully dissagree. I lived there as well. While i am significantly younger and lived there at a very early age i can say that my family left the USSR because A) anti-semitism was real and unfortunately dangerous and B) they wanted a better future for my sister and I.

While yes many of the top scientists, engineers, actors, entrepreneurs, writers were jewish, they were still the vast minority. Unless they had concrete connections, people including my parents were prevented from going to medical school or other fields simply because of their religion. This is the reason why the vast majority of educated Russian Jews who immigrated here are trained engineers or computer programmers, these were the few choices that they had.

Why do you think most Jews in the USSR became socially jewish as apposed to practicing jews? How many synagogues were there in USSR, rather how many families did not go to synagogue and could not practice their religion, and hid their religion because they were too scared of the thin walls and what neighbors would hear and report. I dont know what part of Russia you were from nor what religion you associate with and i am not saying that to discredit you, but i can not sit hear and listen to someone say that Anti-semetism wasn't around. The final decision came when my sister was slapped arround by a couple of highschool kids on the way home from school for being a 'Jid'.

With all do respect, i politely have to disagree with your remarks.

Really?
