Yes it is possible depending on your budget. As to where to get it, this is another good question. They are pretty rare on the market.

The closest thing I have ever done is to improve on ETA6497-1 ala B series and converting it to high beat with parts from ETA6497-2 and Asian 6497-2. I wrote a thread about this before. Can be found here: http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/...6497-38028?t=38028&highlight=eta6497-1+6497-2

You can also do this on E or H series.

Panerai outsource their movements to the Swiss based company ETA, which is owned by the Swatch group.

However The Swatch Group have recently stated that from 2010 they will stop supplying third party partners such as Omega, Mont Blanc and a host of others which include Panerai. The Swatch Group will only make movements for thier own brands.

The Eta movements are available to buy but from suppliers but my guess is that they will now become more expensive now due to the Swatch Groups decision. Anyway the Chinese automatic movements are hand assembled just like the Swiss Gens, and many of the component parts were manufactured in the far east.

The problem with rep movements are you dont know if there was any quality control in assembley or production of parts.

Close, but not quite, RR. Panerai outsource the decoration and modification of their ETA based movements to a Swiss company called SOPROD (which may be owned by ETA, as well, I'm not certain). I would assume SOPROD purchases the base movements and then modifies and decorates them to re-sell to Panerai for use in their watches.

@ cus+0m - You won't find any real Swiss movement with the correctly shaped bridges and engraving as the Panerai movements. This is part of the work that SOPROD does, and I'm certain they can't/won't do that specific work for anyone else. The most Swiss you can get, without buying a gen Panerai movement is a Swiss ETA base movement with the replica bridges and swan neck which would be pieces made in China.

No, you wouldn't need to get two movements, I was just pointing out that the movements that are called "Swiss" aren't 100% Swiss if they have the decorated/shaped bridges.

Honestly, go with the A6497, they have proven to be rock solid movements and are closer replicas of the 6497-2 movements that gen PAMs use.

DSN can source you a movement for certain. Probably Hont, too. Maybe MR or T4D? Not sure.

I mean rock solid. Sorry if you've had bad experiences, but that's been my experience.

I've got one watch that is running an A6497 and is 3+ years old. Never serviced or repaired and keeps great time.
