I have read here and there where a few people said they would like to see this watch replicated. I know that RWC came close, but it's $1,000 and has no brand markings and incorrect crown guard (amongst other flaws). I am starting this thread to get a collective place where we can see just how many people would be interested in this particular model being rep'd.

I believe if we get enough demand the supply will follow. The movement will not be gen quality, but what rep model has an eight day reserve? :p Other than that, it should be very close.

Here is the watch if you don't know it by the model number:

I would love a replica of that watch, but isn't this watch really really really really huge? :)

I saw this on a person's wrist (in a picture) and it was the size of his fist.
I'm afraid my 6.5 inch wrist won't be able to handle it

It's a great watch though with a lot of history behind it.

That watch is HUGE! Oh, and it's RWC (Retrospect Watch Company), not RXW (Ken Trading). I'm starting to rethink my 47mm watches as too big and I have a 7.5" wrist. That thing is a monster! I'll pass.

It's not really that huge. All the reports of it being 60mm is from edge to edge including the crown guard. The watch dial is the standard 47mm dial and the case makes it look bigger. However, it's case is aluminum and therefore negates some of the size in lesser weight. I mean the strap is a 24mm strap like on the 111 and other 44mm models. So the reports of it being this HUGE monster are unfounded. Don't get me wrong, it is still big, but would be kind of close to a 187 or other submersible.

53mm comes close to the BIG Russian Diver series. 58mm without canteen crown and weighs 260 grams.

I'm game if done right (as stated above) movement can be a regular 6497 but has to look good cosmetically--IE like a gen but w/ different movement

It's bigger than a 187. Much bigger.

This watch is giant. It was designed to be worn OVER a wetsuit, and therefore is way too large to wear otherwise. 63mm, if memory serves correctly.

I agree that it would be very cool to see a rep of it, but you'd look like a tool wearing the thing in public...

Very similar to the 55mm B-Uhren Luftwaffe watch of World War Two ... a pratical tool watch intended to be worn over a flight suit ; unfortunately for collectors much too large to be worn today without looking "strange" ...

Hey guys, not to be rude, but can we please stick to topic?

This wasn't a thread on size comparison. Please start your own thread on the B-Uhren Luftwaffe if you want. But let's please keep this on to topic on whether or not you would buy one of these if replicated.

As discussed already, it is not a HUGE watch. It has a 24mm strap (which makes it look larger). Also it's height is more than most. 60mm is the total diameter including crown guard. But that's not really the issue. I really would like to see this model rep'd. And if there are enough others I plan to make a plea to get this one rep'd. So please keep to topic.

BTW, that one picture showing the person holding up the GPF 2/56 must have almost a 6" wrist. So that makes it look HUGE. If pictured on/near a 7-7.5" it wouldn't look near that big. Now to help with all of this HUGE talk I included a side by side of a 187 and the Gpf 2/56. These are both true to scale. I have not altered anything except the scale at which I sent them to the printer. If you want the true 1:1 jpg (like if you were looking at it on your wrist) let me know. You can see they are not that far off.

Where is enzo when you need him?

Don't know if it's the round case that makes it look this way, but the lugs look significantly longer than on any other 47mm pam... i think that's more of a concern for those with small wrists than the width.. for example i've got a <6.5" wrist and my fiddy looks perfect sitting on my wrist... however my UPO makes me look kinda idiotic and the UPO's at least 4-5mm less in diameter.. just my thought.. other than that the watch looks great... 8)

That GPF is a very interesting model to rep indeed.

Currently Only the RXW of Japan is making a homage but they are very afraid to put a Panerai CG
on it due to possiblity of a lawsuit. Also movt is a unitas 6497.

From a manufacturer point of view the most difficult part is geting an accurate movt for that model.

The correct distance of sub dial from centre pin is around 8.2mm.

Current 6497 sub dial distance (10.2mm) from centre pin which is a bit too far.

Another option is using the asian 7750 b1 movt which has a 8.25 mm sub dial distance indeed but
it is an automatic movt. Not a hand winding movt like the Gen.

Meanwhile the original siwss 8 days angelus winding movt is an ideal movt to use but that movt is just impposisble for us to buy from Swiss plus it is very expnesive movt to use.

Once there is a CN made approiate movt available in the market,I am very interested in repping this
model.

Anyone have any good suggestion of movts will be wellcome.

My MM20 rep is ~54mm INCLUDING the CG. 60mm is way too big for my 7.5" wrist.

You asked if we would be interested, I said no 'cause it's too big. How is that OT? I agree about the discussion of the size of other vintage pieces like the luftwaffe, though.

Did you see the side by side comparison with the 187? It is not that far off. This 60mm stuff is ridiculous.

Davidsen, I think the movement is the only issue right now. You could use the 6497 and just have a frozen seconds hand. But I don't know how many people would like that. I would prefer to have a running seconds hand.
