Whenever I’ve asked mates who have gens to take them off so I can have a look I usually get this response.

‘Fu”k Off”

Any gen owner usually gives the same response, especially to a stranger.

Whether this is down to fear of dropping it on concrete...never good, someone running off with it or being called out I’m not sure lol

So yea. I went to this party today for a barbecue wearing my Bentley GT.

It was in a backyard... About half-way into the party my friend comes up to me and tells me that my watch is fake! So I give him a puzzled look and say what are you talking about? He says that some young guy at this party is a jeweler/watch dealer and he told him and a bunch of people that my watch is fake!

So I come up to this guy and pull him to the side and ask him why he thinks that my watch is fake. He asks to to take it off and I do.

So now I'm like damn he's gonna call me out on the font. But no, he pushes the button for the chronometer; it works. He still maintains that he has experience selling watches for 7 years and he is sure it is a fake. I press on for him to tell me why. He turns the watch over so I think he's gonna say something about the 't' not being crossed. Nope all is good here. He finally rotates the bezel and says that it should not rotate freely like this on the gen, and when he tried to set the time he said that the hour markers should rotate clockwise when adjusting the time, not counter-clockwise.

He also tried to open the caseback at which point I was like uhm.. what are you doing? So he handed it back to me and I said I would take it up with the person I bought it from...

This defininetly was not a pleasant expericen and I think this guy is an a**hole no? I mean he went around telling everyone he could find that my watch was a fake! I mean why would he do that.
And what has me even MORE curious is the fact the he knew it was a fake by looking at it from my wrist, yet all the way he explained that it was fake were by touching it and moving the handles and bezel. He also said the bracelet didnt look right when he was holding it... But how was he able to deterine this by looking at it while it was on my wrist! Thoughts/Comments? What should I have said?

I'm a watchmaker, and I can tell a fake by touch. Sometimes smell, as funny as that sounds.
Most just aren't up to par finish quality wise. It's immediately apparent if you work with nice watches every day.

BUT, if it's a decent quality fake there is no way I can tell whether it's real or not on the wrist. My guess is that he's an asshole and had no idea, but you didn't look like someone who would be wearing that watch so he felt safe accusing you.

Bottom line, he's a major dick. I would never call out a fake on anyone in any setting that involved other people. Unless it's just you, and the watch owner it's extremely bad form and could be very embarrassing for the owner. Even then I'm very diplomatic about it, asking, "Have you ever suspected this might not be genuine?"

Having both too many genuine's and way way way too many replicas. These are my observations:

Rolex's
The oyster bracelets are always flimsy
if you shake it and you hear any noise from the rotor or whatever it's wrong

Apart from that unless you get out a loupe the quality of stainless steel sports watches is ridiculously good.

Obviously, if it's gold the weight will give it away immediately. Anybody who has actually owned a solid gold Rolex will tell you they are often uncomfortable to wear. Because they are so extremely heavy.

In general, as some people have said before if you are wearing a replica watch you have to have the persona to back it up.

It makes me laugh when I see so many people in London wearing Richard Mille watches when there are probably only a handful of watches in the whole city there are legitimate

Why are you even friend with him? A friend doesn't go around and tell EVERYONE that it's a fake watch etc... I mean it's none of his business..

I also got called for my Omega 300m MKF version... A guy said that it looks like a fake, and that he has been working with watches over 11 years :O

And I was like "yeah ok, whatever you say"
And he responded: "So it IS a fake watch"?
Me" Sooo now all of the sudden you don't know wether it's a fake or not? And no, you may not try it, look at it. All I can is "OK". I don't care about your opinion.
But he was persistent to just take a look at it and telling me that he thought it was beautiful and wanted to buy the exact same watch.
I told him to go to a Omega store and try it, but I won't give it to you just because I hate people like you that says that all the nice things people have, is fake... So I told him that he has a fake car and left:lolzor::lmao:

I'm not a shame to tell people it's a fake one, since I don't really care. But i want to make assole like these people, burn a little bit to the though that it is a real one...

Next time, just say "OK" and "no you can not see it" works everytime
