I've come to like the 372/422 very much and I was wondering whether you guys think it's worth it to take this step in to genuine, I see there is a release by SF which isn't mentioned in the Panerai guide and it's tempting to pull the trigger on it to try out the 47 size.

What do you guys think?

I have handled a gen 372, as I assume have you.

Only you can justify that expense.

FWIW, I would never buy that gen. There are some Panerai models that I find to be tempting, don't get me wrong. Just not that one.

Just my $0.02 USD as always.

@little: Oddly, a 563. Or maybe a 1499. I like fiddy cases and white dials, lol.

There are others with complications that appeal but sell for stupid money. I'd have a tough time rationalizing five figures for one.

hmm i think Gen PAMs have their allure but from a price-to-value point, the reps are really doing a good job. Event though the Noob 372 has a display caseback and that gives a lot off, from the front, it is virtually indistinguishable from the gen.

Perhaps some other Gen PAMs, with complications which the rep factories cannot replicate, would be a better choice.

Off the top of my head, perhaps the flyback? or rattrapante? There are some reps of these available but not as well made as the simple dial ones.

I've spent many hours in the Panerai boutique trying on their watches and I can't see any discernible difference in the look and feel between them and the reps. The genuine Panerai straps were going for around US$340 but they felt like a US$100 strap at best. You would have to be looking to throw money away by buying a gen.

Left is a rep ghost, on the right is my gen 88. I was the first to kick myself in the arse for that hefty purchase and yes it was before finding RWI.

Lordy, I thought the left one was the Gen too! And I deffo prefer the left one....sorry!!!!

Thanks so much for posting them side by side though.

IMO I'd get a gen 086 or 089 which have anthracite dials and are stunningly beautiful ! The reps are really far from good on these two.
