This is possible, but I dont think it make sense to build a 400-Euro-Movement in a 200-Euro-Watch, that is not even near to the Gen ;-)

Are there any other REPS that with out the seconds at nine that would make sense? I am amusing the seconds at nine gearing is an issue but I may be wrong?

I am a partisan of proper swiss movements in replicas myself, depending on the "worthiness" of the watch : rare pieces, modded/franken builts, but it all depends on each watch's specifications.

It gives a more reliable timekeeping and adds value to the watch, but going for a movement swap is a matter of personal feeling and attachment to the watch first. Also, some search is necessary to make sure it is technically possible (case specs, hands fit...).

As Jaybee said, the watch you linked above is cool watch from HWF, but although technically possible for a straight fit (I guess), it would not be worth a swiss movement swap to me. But hey, you're going to be the wearer, it's all up to you.

If you like the 000 you can try your luck in getting the better 000-Rep from XF. But this one is hard to get in these days. An alternative without the small second at 9 is the HFac 176 with a titanium case and the Noob 390. The 176 is available but imo not the best choice for an upgrade with the ETA/Unitas-Movement, because it has a glass back and the ETA/Unitas-Movement is not decorated like the Gen. The 390 however is not available at the TDs.

May I ask why you will upgrade the movement? The A6497 are reliable and can be regulated to run nearly perfect. And they are cheap. If you some day might have a problem with this movement, every watchmaker can exchange it for a very fair price.

p.s.: Dont get me wrong. My comment about the HWF 000 was maybe too harsh. It is a nice watch but no watch, where you should consider to invest 400 Euro in a movement-upgrade. You can try the HWF 000 and take a look, how you like it. If you are new to Pam-Reps this is a great and not to expensive model to make a start.

I am just font of ETA moments, an elaborate ETA would work fine for me with a glass back. I will watch M2M for a 176. I am in no hurry. Glad to hear they are reliable since the VSF 1312 is on my radar.

The VSF 1312 is an automatic watch and has the "In-House" VSF-P.9010-Clone-Movement. This is also a reliable movement but it is not so easy to get spare parts or an exchange movement in case of problems.

If you want to dig a little bit deeper in the topic you might want to read KOT1917 s fantastic background article on Panerai-Movements.

The only time I would consider a Swiss transplant is if I’m going down the franken route. There are some reps in the past that have had Swiss movements put in by the factory also, so it’s not unusual.

I'll check it out. Thanks. I love to do my research.

In addition there's different swiss movement. 6497-1 cheaper then 6497-2. There's the Unitas 6498 or 6497. I'm also fond of having swiss movements in my watches. But depends on what watch and how much of an attachment. Marlin pam 111 and Pam's 127. Marlin is a member who use 6497-2 main plate with some gen parts on rep movements.

Where do you source the gen PAM movement please ?
You don't source actual gen Pam movements, but gen Unitas/ETA 6497. These can be found here and there on Ebay or watch parts suppliers.

It may be worth it with close caseback models but it can be a "deco" problem with clear casebacks.

I found a custom Nata78 Panerai 5218 that checks all the boxes and a soild custom case back to boot. What do you think?

That is, like all of Natas78 builds, a wonderful watch. Much higher quality than the models from HWF in your OP. If you still have plans to upgrade the movement on base of this watch, you should ask him - he knows best and is a regular contributor to RWI.

From my reseach it looks like Natas78 has serviced the movement in the build. I will hold on to it until it neads service and upgrade then. I am really happy with the watch.

Glad you’re happy with your purchase.
The asian 6497-2 is a bulletproof movement.
It will not require service for a few years to come.
If you want swiss, that is possible of course.
They are mostly low beat and a bit bland to look at though.
