Finishing and refinishing an AP ROO or RO case - need for a tutorial?

Id be generous if i said it was average haha. The pictures just dont make it look as bad as real life. Then again, everything looks better without taking macros and studying it! Its all a learning curve with reps, and im not looking to spend a lot of money to buy the machinery necessary to refinish one watch i own really well. At least we tried

There is nothing to insult. I’ve seen gen royal oaks which look a lot worse.
These watches are meant for wearing and as such it’s impossible for them to remain in pristine condition over a period of consistent wearing, given that there is a limited number of times they can be polished and refinished.

These are reps worth a couple of hundreds and sometimes it’s more worthwhile to get a new watch if the current one accumulated too much scratches and dings. So let’s not get too obsessed with refinishing/refinishing them. Like gens they get scratched and dinged but unlike gens, it is not inhibitive to just get a new watch. Refinishing may work for gens due to the relative cost but for reps/frankens the cost and time spent may not be worth the while.

One purpose of wearing reps is so that they can serve as beaters and be scratched or marred without worries.
Your watch finish looks better than many gen royal oaks I saw in my circle lol. Like I said there is nothing to insult. Good job!

infact i wear it without thinking too much....i ve swam in the sea... in the pool...and live it completely ....pheraphs ....it is better to get a new one......mine is the jf...now I could buy a zf ( like 15500 blue that I yet have) and have use it like before....

Not to kick you while your down but the subscribe button at the top makes you follow a thread and be notified if its updated. Not putting nice thread. If we seem shitty its because your not the first person to think writing pointless one liners in loads of threads counts as a useful contribution to the forum. If your being honest its just a way to get your post count past 25 so you can attempt to sell. Your number 945,763 in line to the first person with the same idea.

But some might say true luxury would be not to care about damaging valuable gens but just wearing them. Many schools of thought about that, but there is something to be said about not squirreling mint pieces in a safe, or on the other hand not damaging one of a kind pieces carelessly.

Having said that, I’m more personally invested in some frankens that took a long time to source or to have assembled for me— more emotionally invested than any gen, regardless of the monetary value.

This thread was devised to help with minor wear and scars from casual wear, using techniques that wouldn’t remove a lot of metal, require a lot of time or skill, or need special equipment. The offshore has some of the most dramatic juxtapositions of sharp and polished edges of any line, and this write up was designed to restore some of those.

Fortunately......even if i m not so good on understanding particular and specifics terms...( i m learning them step by step) ....i ve understood the meaning of the post and the intentions of the opener ...that is obviously a specialist.....but he wanna learn to us how maintain our watches in good conditions erasing little scratches and airlines without damage the particular geometry of it ( like I do ) ......
this is for me very usefull and interesting...but don t change me in a stainless stell artist .....just help me for minor damage without spending time and money sending The watch...and ....not least....enjoying the self made operation and results.
however....they are only reps...and we have to feel them like this......gen are other ..

I've just been on eBay ordering micromesh abrasive boards and whetstone, so I can get the brushed sides and mirror finish facets back on a couple of tired APs...*

Those who know me know this is likely to end in disaster, so I look forward to posting the resultant horror story here!

*I've got a drawer absolutely full of sanding and polishing stuff, but obviously every time I read a new post on the subject, I find I don't have exactly what the OP mentions, so I have to go and buy more stuff...
