Don't know what you mean by "hard edge". This is one watch that just oozes solid quality - no sharp or rough areas. Every part is tactilely pleasing. If imitation is truly the best form of flattery, I think the gen makers will either stoked and utterly impressed at this brilliant replication, or they will hurdle in a group wringing their hands and muttering: "How could they have done this well for less than $500???" Frankly, I don't own a sub-$500 gen that looks so flawless!

Oh yeah, this post is useless without at least a picture. So here's a quickie I took on arrival today. :)

We're talking about the dome shape of the crystal. It should be smooth from edge to edge with a descending boarder. If you look at the photos of the prototype model that Angus posted you can see that instead of a smooth descending edge to the bezel it cuts off sharply. See photo below.

We basically need a similarly angled shot of the ones that are being shipped to determine if that was fixed or not.

Now believe me, I respect that its a great replica and this is certainly not a "flaw" that would prohibit me from buying it, I'm personally just asking out of curiosity.

From that photo it looks like a pretty big gap between the crystal and bezel. Still, I want one.

Good news, Finally:)
This is sounding very good with several members talking quality "Comparing to my recent reps (i.e. LW wobbly crown, loose bezel on BB and 382), the quality of the fifty fathoms is miles better."
"Quality" being the word for a rep that costs $500 shipped. It seems possible after all to have a high price and good looks and quality all together. This is a move into the right direction from the makers.

The edge does sharper compared to the gen from the pics. Still a very nice rep.

Lets hope for more pics!

I probably should let someone else with better photo skills do this, but here's my effort with a phone camera. There is no gap between the domed bezel and the metal edge. Their meeting point is smooth and not abrupt as the photo might suggest.

In the last few months, I bought a BB, LW, Omega AT, and ZF Pam 382 Bronzo. I love them all but this BPFF blows them all away in terms of quality.

This is good to hear as I've been looking hard at this watch for my next purchase.

Hyjynx, thanks for the pic.

If you look at the picture below. Would you say the crystal edge is as smooth as the gen?

Because at PT pictures it looks really sharp, but perhapes they updated it.

Sounds good, I am really looking forward to getting one, it has been on my wish list for a long time, glad they did a solid job with it.

Looks good but let's see that rep crystal edge. A good clean shot of it. Or if you cant capture it with your camera, can you comment on it being smooth or beveled (as per the comparison pics of Angus versus OEM posted earlier).

I haven't handled the gen, but I can tell you the rep's crystal edge with the domed bezel is curved and smooth, as it is with the outer edge. One thing to note about photos is that depending on the source of the lighting, the domed bezel plays with and distorts the reflection. When you have the rep in your hand, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks again.

They must have updated the crystal then. It looked on angus pictures that it was a really sharp edge.

Anyone know how the lug bars work on this fifty fathoms rep? They don't seem to be spring bars and the screw heads are hexagonal

If it is like the gen you need two .9mm allen keys (hex keys) or pop for the Blancpain changing kit (comes with a strap) for more than the rep, it has a nifty holder for the watch during changes. I suggest anyone getting on verifies the size on the rep and gets a pair because even if you don't plan to change straps we all know how rare it is to get a rep with every screw tight...

Edit I plan to get the Wiha version, solid company makes good tools, less than $5 shipped (US) for two from a number of online stores

Great tips (pun intended) on the tools! I am not too overly concerned about the crystal at this point. The Omega 2531.80 got me excited about this hobby and led to me buying the gen. I have that same feeling about this watch. I have that same passion about this watch. Scary. Lol

You may want to hold off on purchasing .9mm keys for the BFF rep. It sounds like the hex screws may be another size.

My H 0,9 mm tool is too small, might be 1,0 mm or even bigger.
