Can a DW that lines up perfectly on one watch be removed and installed on a different(same model) movement and be expected to line up perfectly centered in the date window again? Also can one expect the date to center if the whole movement is removed and put in a different watch?

Ok, are we talking Date-wheel or DWO, you post title is a little confusing ? But to expand, a date wheel out of say a 2824-2 will go to another 2824-2 directly and should align with the date window on the dial precisely, there may be a slight variation, but it should be that slight it will be virtually unnoticeable. That is presuming they are either both Swiss or both Asian movements.

if your talking about DWO's then this is not the case. If you take the whole movement (including the DWO) and dial out of one case and fit it to another then it should align as previously viewed in the original case. Any date misalignment in the first case will be transferred to the second case.

its all a bit confusing, and I still don't know if I've answered your question correctly, but hope it helps.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. If a DWO is properly aligned on a DW and the DW is transferred to another movement or the whole movement put under a different dial(with same date window location) but you answered my question, thanks!!

it is possible to remove a 2824 2836 dw and dwo as one piece and transplant onto similar movement, this does not hold true for most 21j movements.

Do you mean you can't transplant a date wheel from one 21j to another 21j? Or can't go from 2824/36 to 21j?

datewheel on a 21j sits under screws and a plate, you can remove the dwo and reuse but it is basically being reinstalled.

what exactly are you trying to do ?

It really does depend on the models of watch/rep, for example, taking a TC or BK sub movement out of their case, complete, and fitting in an Explorer II, the dates won't line up, the Explorer too is a larger case, and dial, thus the dwo used on the Explorer is completely aligned differently.

I have a Swiss eta that I would like to move into a v3 subc (when I receive it). Will I be able to remove the date wheel from the a3286 that will come in the sub, put it on the eta, and then install the eta into the sub and it still be aligned as it was? Thanks for any responses!
