Does the fiddy really have an "exploding glass" pr

If you purchase the mineral glass fiddy, the odds are that it will break. In fact it is almost assured. The design of the curved crystal creates stress which mineral glass cannot handle. Either buy a sapphire to replace it or be prepared for the worst. Keep in mind that the exploding glass can also damage the watch hands and dial.

Rogerwine's Fiddy's Glass exploded on an airline flight. The pressure change of hte cabin was enough to pop and shatter it.

You can ask him, i'm sure he'll retell that story... it's a great, yet unfortunate story, particularly for the passengers :)

yes, i remember the story, the air marshall wasn't amused.

Counting all the forumers from 3 main rep forums, there's more than 30 of us that experienced this unfortunate incident...and these are people that were willing to admit it. I believe the total number is by far greater.

Most of the Fiddy crystals cased in e0581/1950 case already exploded, the ones that didn't are just sitting time bombs. They aren't sapphire either. unfortunatelly we learned this lesson too far down the road, and for some of us - too late.

I haven't heard of any e0117/1950 Fiddy exploding so far, but I could be wrong.

cheers,
babola

I have one of TWP'S mini fiddy's. No problems yet. It does have the newer number E0117, on the caseback. I have had it for 3 or 4 months.

The mini-Fiddies don't have the same 0117/0581 difference, AFAIK. The cases are all the same on the minis, 0117.

I replaced mine with a 37.2 low dome acrylic crystal from CousinsUK.com. So did VirginiaWatchFan and, I think, lumpyone.

I had my mini-Fiddy with the mineral crystal for several months, also. I didn't swap it out because I was afraid it would explode, I just wanted an acrylic. The fact that it won't shatter of its own accord is just a bonus.

So have you made the swap now? If so, did you do it yourself? I'm thinking I should get one and have it on hand.

Keep in mind, Joshua/Andrew's use of "synthetic sapphire" means mineral glass. The same goes for the other dealers, if it's really a sapphire crystal, it will just be advertised as "sapphire". Even some of the supposed "sapphire" crystals have been reported to have issues. Good luck.

I'm afraid that's true. It happened to me when I received a Fiddy in a member trade (the member acted very correctly throughout, and I am grateful to him).

I fell in love with the Fiddy nonetheless, but synthetic sapphire (as it was advertised) is indeed mineral glass. And chances are great it'll break.

I sent this back, and got a DSN Fiddy -- he himself sells individual sapphire crystals for $60 IIRC.

NOTE: I too have a mineral crystal Mini-Fiddy from the dread pirate Paul/Womart. Crystal intact. Touch wood.

synthetic sapphire... :x :x :x

I still have a PAM flyback I won't wear until someone comes up with a real sapphire replacement crystal.

Nope, I had vaccum do it. You can see the results in my mini-Fiddy thread in this forum and my Spaghetti/chocolate thread in Eyecandy.

I have the original mineral crystal still, if anyone wants it...

VB, from the looks of how far the bezel goes to the edge of the case on yours, that would appear to be a 0117 case, yeah?

Just checked it out. It looks good, and it won't explode!!!! I'm going to order one, maybe 2....I have a 212 also. I guess I need to do some checking to see if the 212 is the same size. Thanks for the info.

my E0117 did not explode , but it cracked, to be honest i wasn't wearing it to hear ig it goes boom

i have a spare 127 (e0117) with what is supposed to be sapphire, a few days ago i noticed it has smth like a scratch on it and i tried to see how easily it scratches
i has able to scratch it with the side of a razor, i was disapointed and placed it in the box i keep all my watches
the same night i opened the box and noticed that the crystal was cracked!im 90% sure the crack started right on the spot of the scratch was.
maybe the crystal is too much pressed on the bezel and a small scratch can weaken it, or when its get colder the bezel shrinks (maybe even 0.001mm is enough) and breaks the glass,

my 2 cents...

Well after much thought, I have canceled the order on the miny fiddy.
I'm planning on wearing it quite often and I don't want to have to be careful with it all the time in fear of it breaking...
Maybe if my wrists grow another inch then i'll go for the propper fiddy :D
I've decided to get a 111h instead

I know what you mean....I sent him 360.00 yesterday useing WU.....30.00. If you go to his dealer section, open a thread, their will be an e-mail link to click on. Send him an e-mail, and ask what options are available. I know he uses WU, and Bankdraft, possibly others.
