Does the fiddy really have an "exploding glass" pr

Hey guys,
I'm about to order a modded mini fiddy but it still has the synthetic sapphire.
I've heard stories about the sapphire exploding...is it really delicate or are the stories a bit overblown?
I mean I obviously wont bang it against anything on purpose, but slight bumpage may occur from time to time as with any watch..

Can anyone set the record straight for me?

Unless the watch crystal comes with an AR coating of C4 Plastic explosives wired to an electric device you should be fine, it just happened twice and the C4 had already expired. :wink:

obvioulsy I didn't really mean that they explode...but i've seen pics of the glass cracking and I really don't want that to happen

the curved mineral crystal is known to shatter, sometimes causing particles to fly as they are released from being under pressure.... true syn sapphire will not...

Yes, the mineral crystal Fiddy do break, and it only takes a very light bump or scratch to weaken it. I know this from personal experiance.

Rogerwine's Fiddy's Glass exploded on an airline flight. The pressure change of hte cabin was enough to pop and shatter it.

You can ask him, i'm sure he'll retell that story... it's a great, yet unfortunate story, particularly for the passengers

Keep in mind, Joshua/Andrew's use of "synthetic sapphire" means mineral glass. The same goes for the other dealers, if it's really a sapphire crystal, it will just be advertised as "sapphire". Even some of the supposed "sapphire" crystals have been reported to have issues. Good luck.

So does anyone sell a mini fiddy true sapphire crystal...I know it's available in the 47mm size but what about the 44mm size?
any idea on how much it would cost?

I don't know of anyone who sells a mini-Fiddy with a sapphire crystal.

Yep, there is at least one person who has had their mini-Fiddy crystal break on this forum...

Seems like the odds of it happening are low then...
Approximately how much would it cost to replace the mineral crystal if it did break?

I have no idea. The big challenge there is sourcing another crystal to replace it with. I replaced mine with a 37.2mm low-dome acrylic crystal for a more vintage feel.

A quick search showed at least 4 different people that had their Fiddy crystals explode.

As far as I know, only lumpyone had his 44mm mini-Fiddy crystal explode....

lumpy's mini Fiddy crystal broke a while back. If I had to guess, I would say about 4 months ago.

I do not know if he found a replacement.

I'm buying it from twp so i'm hoping he can source the replacement sapphire if this one breaks..

Hey Dude i jst paid for the Ultimate fiddy Modded version. I am also buying from TWP. I believe his watches should be saphire since it does say it onm hi site. But ne ways i got the SWISS ETA with Sawan Neck. I hope when i recieve it im not dissapointed. The reason i say that is b/c i contacted TWP a Bunch of times but fro some reason he wont reply back. I wanted to ask questions but no relply, and since it takes 3-4 weeks for the watch i had to order yesterday since im leaving the country on November 11th
