Canada, but in Hungary... for now
Here’s the story of two online purchases – one from Stan and one from Amazon.com. In the middle of April, I was in need of a textbook for a university course (yup, uni at 40!) and a present for my wife’s birthday on May 15th. Living in Taiwan has its perks but accessibility to American products is not one of them. I found the textbook I needed on Amazon and ordered it and then found a two-tone Rolex that Stan was selling on RepGeek. The transaction with Stan went smoothly and a few days later the watch was on its way. I was happy to receive the book and the watch on the last day of April; that was until I opened both packages. First, the book had somehow suffered water damage and was in poor shape. Then to my surprise, I found that the watch had deep scratches in the crystal! I promptly emailed both vendors and waited. A representative from Amazon contacted me within 11 hours and told me to send the book back (at their expense) and the purchase price would be refunded in full. But there was a problem, the course had started and I couldn’t wait to have another book shipped to me. Upon hearing this, the representative informed me that my money had already been refunded and that I should use the book until I finished the course and then send it back (again at their expense!). WOW, I thought. What great customer service.
A few days later Stan emailed me saying that there couldn’t possible be scratches in the crystal as it was sapphire, he actually said it was probably glue! I informed him that there were indeed scratches (as the pictures I emailed showed) and that they must have happened before shipping as the package was in pristine condition when it arrived (To protect myself from fraud, I video myself unwrapping all online purchases). At this point, he told me to send it back (at my expense) and his watchsmith would replace the crystal and then he would send it back. I was disappointed with because I knew that the watch was definitely not going to be back in time for my wife’s birthday. I asked him if he could just give me a refund and I could buy something else for her, but he said he would not because it was a “sale†item. The watch I am talking about was $85us and the shipping was $17us. I pointed out that he was going to have to spend another $17 to ship it back to me when instead he could sell the watch in the CONUS and not be out of pocket so much, but he wasn’t interested. I then sent the watch back to him as requested. And that is when the communication stopped. I emailed him numerous times asking if he received the watch and about its status, but I got nothing in reply. My wife’s birthday came and went and I lost some serious points for not having some bling for her. Then two weeks later the watch showed up, without even a note inside. Not once did Stan apologize for the trouble he caused me. I feel he wasted my time and money because he did not quality check the watch well enough before shipping. We are not talking about drop shipping here. He used his own two hands to put it in the box. There were very obvious flaws with the watch that he overlooked and because of that my wife didn’t have her watch and I had to waste my time and money at the post office. In the end I paid $35us shipping for an 85 buck watch! Disappointing to say the least.
Some of you will probably say that Amazon is a huge company and can afford it, but the money isn’t what this is about for me. It’s about customer service. With the time frames involved both of these situations were “outside the box†and needed “outside the box†solutions… Amazon came up with one, Stan did not. Amazon apologized and Stan did not. Apologies are free (even in today’s economy).
Some of you will probably say that sh!t happens in the rep game and there’s nothing that can be done. Well, there is something that can be done… I will only be buying from one of these vendors again; can you guess which one? I’m sure Stan is a great guy and I know that he and his watches have made a lot of people happy, I’m just not one of them.

I wasn't expecting that outcome...

You are right to be disappointed. What happened to the 'customer always being right'....?!

Watch forum and you tell us about your book no offence but no one will care about that you should of just said the watch one its a chunk of text to read it all. Yeah I don't even know what happened in the end too much text...

The comparison is completely unnecessary. You had an issue, Stan fixed it...not to your liking, but he did in fact fix it...
This is a big boy place, where we all wear big boy pants. I suggest you buy a pair from Amazon, they sell them cheap, and if anything goes wrong, they have your back.

Maybe his response would have been better if it wasn't a "sale" watch. Me personally, I don't see the difference.

I was comparing the two experiences, but you would have known that if you had read it in its entirety.

I'll keep this short so you can read it all...

Thank you for your advice.

IMO you just placed an useless comment.
And it's your opinion that it's a chunk of text to read it all. You are entitled to that opinion but IMO you're just too lazy to read. So in the future maybe refrain from clicking on any links if you're just too lazy to put any effort into it.

I respect the OP to give an elaborate explanantion why he is disappointed.

Welcome to RWI, where everyone wears big boy pants and doesn't want to hear your opinion.

I never said that Stan didn't fix the problem. It was how he did that I was disappointed with. Am I not allowed to talk about that?

I'll shut up now and let the big boys talk

If he had gave it some paragraphs I might have been able to read it clearly but not with a wall of endless writing in a bigger than normal font. If he was to the point and not typing a life story I may have gave a helpful comment but not today and elaborate more confusing I think but each to your own!

While Stan is known to be a great dealer, it certainly in no way means he doesn't make mistakes.
I agree he could have handled the problem better based on your account, and as such you have a perfect right to be disappointed in the end.
All opinions are welcome here, just not all will be met with enthusiasm and support. While I understand the purpose of your comparative post, the comparison to Amazon is a touchy subject here as too many noobs expect Amazon-like service and speed from dealers - which will never happen.
I'm glad in the end that your wife received her birthday gift, even if a little late. Sadly, it won't be the last time she's let down on a special occasion. These things happen.
And I'm glad you got a free text book out of the deal. Those things aren't cheap! (Trust me - I have 2 kids and a wife all doing PhDs at private universities at the same time, so I know how much text books cost)
So despite the frustration and un-met expectations, it sounds like in the end you came out alright on both deals.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the support. Even though I haven't been around here for long, I wouldn't call myself a noob. I understand about the whole Amazon thing, but shouldn't all vendors have the same values of customer service. If the customer doesn't feel respected, then something has gone wrong.

Sadly, it won't be the last time she's let down on a special occasion.
It better be, or I'm going to be kicked to the curb! Ha

And I'm glad you got a free text book out of the deal.
Well, not free as I will send it back, but I did get to use it for free.

thanks again, I appreciate it.

Cheap watches and speedy delivery is basically what earns Stan the respect he obviously has on this forum.

I, for one, know that from previous experience his communication skills are not his strong point. That will probably never change.

Suppose you put the whole episode down to experience and spend your money elsewhere in future.

I am actually embarrassed by some of the comments you have received from long term members in this thread.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and good luck with your future purchases.

I think you lost people comparing this to amazon given the nature of our hobby. Not sure why the bile though, since I'm pretty sure that any of the negative posters on this thread would have been just as unhappy if this had happened to them.

Sadly though, in this hobby, these things do happen; over time you'll end up with a handful of dealers you want to give your business to, and ignore the others. From my experience, i can say that Sead goes the extra mile to fix his products (although his staff in china are awful at QC), angus is very good at communication. Mary and Polo (not a td), are both also good in my opinion, although polo isn't the best at communicating.

I have had only positive dealings with Stan, but I do respect the OP for providing a review thus the section "dealer reviews." I assume that if the OP would have posted a review without the dealers name there would have been many flaming the dealer and asking that he be named.
I'll wrap up with how I started as to say my dealings with Stan have been positive.

I bought a watch from him recently and when it comes to the actual watch and shipping it was awesome, fast and good quality......

As far as communication , ooh well let's say that he might have a Internet plan that charges per email sent LOL

will I buy again from him?? Oh yes! But with the expectation to very little communication during the process

This a$$hat seemed to forget to include more than one important part of the story.

YES I CURSED AND CALLED HIM A NAME. I AM LOSING PATIENCE WITH BUYERS LIKE THIS THAT CRY AND COMPLAIN WHEN THERE IS AN ISSUE, AND THEN LEAVE OUT IMPORTANT PARTS OF THE STORY. THIS PERSON SHOULD NOT BE BUYING REPS. PERIOD.
THERE CAN BE ISSUES WITH REPS. THAT IS PART OF THE GAME.
The people here that know me know that it takes a lot to piss me off. Panermaniac has done that with his BS post.

Let me tell you the part that was left out.

Part 1) This was sold on Rep Geek. Why is he doing a negative review here?

Part 2) This was a closeout sale item. I clearly stated in the sales ad that at the closeout price, there will be NO REFUNDS. I clearly stated that I would warrant any closeout item, and repair it if necessary, but I would not even entertain a refund.

Part 3) I am NOT part of Amazon, I am not WalMart, KMart, Target, Sears, or any other huge chain store. Your comparison is ignorant. You bought a $75.00 sale item replica. There was an issue, I fixed it for you as I stated I would in the sale ad. When you bought this item, you agreed to the terms that were set forth in that sale. If that was not to your liking, then you should not have purchased from me.

You should reconsider your hobby. You are not someone that should be buying a replica. You can get a faulty item from anyone that sells reps. They are made in factories in a far away country with little or no QC. No matter how much any dealer here QC's a rep, they can miss something.

By all means, next time save your $75.00 and wait until you have about $7,500.00 to buy a GEN Rolex. Then, if there is an issue, you can ask for a refund, which you still might not get depending on who you bought it from.

And, have a nice day..........panermaniac. Please refrain from buying from me in the future. Whatever you want will not be in stock.

And, btw: Thank you for posting this while I was on a stated vacation.
Did you think that people here would come to your defense while I was away and unable to respond to this? I also noticed you bypassed the RWI mods. That is because not a single one would even dignify this because of the circumstances being that you bought this on another forum, and that I stated NO RETURNS as part of the sale.
