I don't think decals could be used to achieve those dials with hollow markers and numbers.
Decals are extremely thin. You can't see it when glued on dial.

Thanks !
Photoshop, good gen dials pics, transparent decal paper, inkjet printer, matt or glossy varnish spray, micro set, brassed blank dials. And a lot of time drawing, retouching, and printing tests.
Awesome thanks for the breakdown mate! Keep it up!

It's planned.
First I finish a 6538 for a friend, and my two Explorers 6610 and 5500. Then I will try a 1675 to replace my RolexAddict dial.

I would just be curious to see how the date window is going to be cut out.

Ok
Didn't know that. unfortunately I dont like pam.
But how could I make this ? Any idea ?

Just found this thread this morning and this is some brilliant work.

I don't think the decal technique would work very well for a classic Panerai style sandwich dial. The decal can't replicate the depth of the cut out numbers and index marks as someone already stated. Even the dial text - "PANERAI", "LUMINOR", "MARINA MILITARE" is is engraved into the dial face so again the decal wouldn't easily replicate that 3D effect. Besides its tough to do white text on printed decals. They do make white decal paper so you could draw the dial as solid black (or whatever color) with transparent text on the white decal paper and apply it to a sterile sandwich dial. Getting the decal alignment could be tough, and then cutting the decal film out of the cutouts would to get a clean result would also be challenging.

I recently bought a new printer so I may give this a try. A couple of questions:

- are you drawing your dial artwork at the exact dial size or have you had to make it slightly bigger to compensate for any shrinkage either from printing or as the decal dries on the dial?

- I saw one post where you tried red text unsuccessfully. Have you had any luck with colored text since or is that just not working because of the very small text size?

after multiple tests I think i achieved to get a correct lume on my 5500 dial.

I tried many times last days without success. It made me mad !

Print decals, wait, put on blanck dials, wait, spray glossy varnish, wait... Each time it's 3 days needed before I could try to lume.

For exemple my last 6610 lume test. Numbers are terrible. Didn't have difficulties on my my first watches with the lume mix.

Those days my lume is very sticky. Thought I use the same recipe as before. Nemoto powder, acrylic matt varnish, acrylic white paint, pigment. Any advice would be appreciated ;)

I could but I think it should not count on me to lume...
Didn't have problems to lume my first 6538 and 5512/13 watches. My lume was nice to applied.
But those days I couldn't achieve to get I nice fluid lume. It's sick. I don't know why, though I use the same recipe. I succeed to make my last 5500 after 3 or 4 mess. On my 6610 the numbers are horribles. I will erase the dial and make a new one. It will be ready in 2 or 3 days...
