This is 100% true. Steel/SS/WG and even platinum are very similar in color in real life. Guys that are saying you can tell from the color alone is either a full time jeweler or talking rubbish there is NO WAY a normal person could tell or would know the difference. I've handled and worn WG/Plat watches for a long long time. The weight on a platinum though is crazy very very heavy.

In terms of the rep DD just get the BP in SS. Avoid the gold ones as you can never get the YG/RG ones exactly the same and as it attracts more attention your watch will be up to more scrutiny. I've owned 3 of the BP DDs now. 1 YG and 2 x RG and even though the color is ok it doesnt feel right (I have this perception of a gold watch needs to have the heft to it). Also the shine is not the same as the gens no matter in the sunlight or night time. The gens just shimmer differently.

If you want to avoid being "called out" and lets face it alot of you guys are pretending to be ballers am I right? just buy the SS models and pretend they are WG/Plat. And get the grey/lighter colored dials.

The chocolate/green and blue dials are not accurate at all.

Ended up with gen DDs anyway as at the end of the day the precious metal reps dont cut it for me. I'll stick to SS model reps from now.

If your referring to day date 40 I highly recommend going with BP for lume stick markers. Noob has made them way too fat.

If accurate gold color is what you are after then you want the BP 18k wrapped and ask to have them put in the silver dial.

Just got the BP DD40 today. Instantly one of my favorite watches. It wears great. I usually stick to DD36 and I have 2 Franken ones by MMM but I may have to sell them and stock up on more of these. Especially with 2xAR.
Already ordered a 2nd.

The franken daydate cases MMM uses are very inaccurate in terms of case shape, lug length (more of a dj case) and endlinkfitment. The rafflescases are really not that great. Also the raffles bracelet is really cheap feeling and finishing is not very good of the polished and brushed areas.

In comparison the dd40 is alot better overall by a very large margin. Where the dd40 lacks is in the usual departments of the fluted bezel or weight. Anyone could tell the difference between the genuine and replica bezel.

That said I have just seen a dd40 whitegold bezel for sale on chrono24.

Now weight is personally a plus for me, who wants to wear a 220gr watch all day.

How is the clasp and bracelet quality of the bp? I have often read that is where bp factory builds are lacking.c

Yes the wm9/twbest daydate. But these were only produced until about 2007 and are very rare now. These were 5 digit reps. The best 6 digit daydate is the bp but it is not a super replica for many reasons (crown and bezel too big, clasp markings, day and datefont, case dimensions, rehaut engraving, weight)

The bracelet is usual rep. Could be better could be worse. Clasp seems a bit weak.

I own gen DDs. Easiest way for me to quickly tell is to look at the coronet on the dial. The reps are all flat. The gens are all 3D and the light hits them in a very different way.

*Of course if they use a gen dial then that changes. Not seen many gen faces on reps.
