Hello all,

I'm in the middle of buying a Tag Carrera and Planet Ocean 7750. I'm using my mastercard and even though there were some problems transfering the money all seemed ok. But now I got a mail from Sarah that the need a copy of my credit card to show to the bank to prove my identity. Has anyone else heard about this?

I bought all my reps from watcheden and this is the first time i've heard that they are asking for a copy of a creditcard... it seems odd.

if there's other options, don't use the card.

Find a dealer that takes paypal, but respect the system - paypal does not allow the trading of reps so don't mention it in any of the waffle associated with the deal.
With paypal, at least your card details are kept hidden - maybe I'm a litle para, but it certainly doesn't hurt!

Sounds a bit strange, but Watcheden should be reliable? But I don't get it - Do they want a photocopy/scanned pic of your card or what? Not sure I would want to do that...

No bank will do that.

If you ever had to prove your identity, it would be with a passport or something.

Giving the copy of your credit card is giving the datas that are also known by the bank.
Maybe they (WE) want to be sure you're the owner of the card. At that time I strongly advise a clear email to W.E.

Besides, those using e-credit cards do not have the physical card, so what's the point of basing an identity check on a piece of plastic ?

They want a photo or a copy of the card.

Yes, I'm amazed as well and a bit nervous for my credit card information. THe money has been transfered so I don't see the problem. Sarah says the need it to withdraw the money from the bank?!?

Is it possible to get the money back now they have been transfered (confirmed byt WE).

Quoting from WE mail:
"Thanks for your order, just tell you when we take your payment from bank,
The bank need us provide your credit card copy ,
to identify you are the holder of this card, not other people stolen it and made
this purchase. So your credit card copy, with hidden the middle 8 digits, will
send to the bank, other people will not see the information on your card.
Please don't worry about it. Thanks very much for your effort and consideration.
Look forward to hearing from you."

Other than that WE has been very nice.

/Lars

What do you mean with a clear mail to WE? I told them just what you are saying and they stil say its the banks demands.

A clear email to ask exactly what they want to do with this copy.
It seems they answered, as stated in your previous post.

You have no real risk so far with your bank datas, not more than any other payment you did online (most bank protect you agaisnt fraudulent useage of your card).
Personally I always use e-credit cards, and would advise to do so in such transactions with China. With e-cards, there's no point in asking a copy of the card, as it does not exist. So why would it be the case with a real card ?

The day you will give a hardware copy of your card, they will get the 3 digits security number (on the back of your card) and this is more disturbing.

Again, you won't prove your identity with this CC copy.

If I were you, I would contact the admins about this pretty strange step from WE, and ask for their advice : they can contact WE easily and ask for more if necessary, although I have doubt Sarah will explain anything else.

In any case, don't give this copy.

Hmm .... I don't see how that proves a card isn't stolen at all.
And it's not something banks do for other transcations.
It sounds quite dodgy.

I have sent her a mail asking her for more info and are referring to this thread.

Who is the admin I can contact directly (I'm new to this forum ;))

Thanks

Contact any of the moderators team, they will take care of your request.

Just tell them you find this strange and link to here in a first step.

??? Based on this post alone I will never buy from sarah. I'm sure there's been numerous successful purchases from other members of rwi but who wants to deal with that kind of possible hassle? Sounds SUPER shady btw...admin's should get to the bottom of this

In the meantime, if you're not confident and cannot get the confirmation that your payment is accepted as it is, do not insist and ask for a refund. Then go to a dealer that either takes PP or MB.

I understand dealers may be confronted to illegal use of stolen card numbers and want to protect themselves, but :
- this is not the way to proceed
- their online system (Ctopay or whatever) should cover them. IF not, it's not your problem actually.

But they only want the front card. Not the three digits on the back. They are asking me not to be afraig about it so should I go for it anyway. They are shipping tomorrow...
