You're grown enough to decide your acts.
After what's been written before, you have all elements you need.

I've never heard of such security controls, Watcheden would be the first to ask.

this is some sort of fraud. i dont care how reputible WE is. i sell EFT (debit, ATM and credit) sytems to banks for a living and what they are asking for they do not need. to verify the card identety and that you phisicaly have the card is what the 3 didget code on the back of the card is for.

i would use a diffrent seller.

just ask yourself when the last time you had to have a merchant make a copy of your credit card, again this is the reason we have that 3 didget code on the back.

Well, just to keep the updates comming. I've decided to trust WE due to it's good reputation here on the board and have mailed a photo of my card with the middle eight numbers being blacked out. No I'm waiting for the watches and the papers from my bank.

Again I must stress that service has been in top so far so I cross my fingers.

Thanks for all the replies. Very impressed with the forum and what seems to be the same sicknes for watches as I have.

Will keep this updated...

/Lars

Update: Mailed a photo of credit card withe onlye the first and last four numbers visible. Got a mail about the credit card being ok and that the watches was going to be sent asap in a package incognito.
A day later I got another mail with tracking number and I have checked the delivery and all seems just nice as expected with WatchEden though the procedure is strange.

when I made my order d (I tried to pay with my mastercard, but payment was refused, so I paid by western union with a $ 20 fee, but I did not have a visa card. I received my order 8 days after the payment.

well, I made my first order from WE yesterday, this morning I got confirmation email from Sarah, and afrter 2 hours I got one more email about the same thing, they want my CC copy and my ID card copy?!
Here is exactly what it was written:

Dear,

In our continued effort to keep our community of customers safe from
online fraud, we have enacted new procedures that are beneficial to
all. Credit card fraud accounts for $2 billion annually. We want to do
our part to help reduce this figure and create a safe environment for
you.

Because of this, for your protection, we now require a credit card
copy and ID copy from you. In order to ensure uninterrupted service,
please send it to us asap, you can cover the middle eight digits if
you want and once we get the copy, we will arrange the delivery.
Thanks!

--
Sincerely,
Sarah

Important note : when you successful made payment by Credit Card,
"www.ctopay.cc" will be appeared in your monthly bank statement OR
“Rolex2u.com” will be appeared in your monthly bank statement."

I'm scanning CC and ID card right now, but I'm a little bit scared, I mean, Lars only send CC copy, why do they need ID copy?

To compare the name on the card and on the ID. Been through this twice with online shops from the US. Cover the middle digits of the CC and cover everything on the ID that you don't want them to have (like issue number, Social Security number etc, just leave the important stuff like name and date of birth visible).

Here we go again : sending a copy of your CC and ID card IS NOT A NORMAL STEP, even if you go from the principle that W.E. is honest.

They don't need that : the 3 digits on the backside of your card are the proof you have the card in your hands physically, and not using a stolen number.

Leave it, buy elsewhere, and let W.E. settle their payment problems. I don't know any other dealer asking these things.

Some other members already did the same, their payment eventually was accepted.

BUT... what will happen in a few monthes when your credit card with all personal datas will be available on internet for a few bucks ?
STOP being naive, please (nothing against you Jakov). Why do other dealers accept Paypal or have not the same problems with CC ??
Ask yourself.

BTW, do you want Rolex2U to appear on your bankstatements ? So you can be sure your bank will let you down the day you will fill in a claim after illegal use of your credit card.
OMG... Think, please, think !

when I was purchasing T-shirts from emp-online I was also asked for CC and ID card copy and everything went well, but I knew that was a trusted site, watcheden.com is new to me, thats's why I'm concerned!

Gents this is "not" normal, don't do it. Shop elsewhere. The only time I have ever considered doing this was for recurring authorizations for business purposes and the information was totally secure but I declined. If online shops are starting to require this, then I won't shop online, period.

I know everything, but I cannot have PayPal account I cannot use Western Union to send money and all of that because I live in montenegro and all of these transfers all still in legislation process for some security reasons, don't ask me why, no one seems to know! Only option for me to buy something is by using my debit card, and there is always some kind of mistrust from online store because they've never heard about my country Montenegro and they're alway suspicious about my payements!

Okay, I am not saying they are untrustworthy. I am saying if they are going to require this, they need to explain how this information is sent, distributed, stored and destroyed. If you send it as a gif file from an email client that is not encrypted or updated to handle the latest encryption then your ID is not safe. If it has a social sec on it, which I doubt, but if it still does, you are opening your self up to disaster if this information is stolen in between WE and the Processor. How will they store this information? Who is guarding the file cabinet? Is the office in an open mall? I have sent WE a message to explain some of these procedures.

If you have already sent the money and they need this info, black out the numbers and protect yourself in any way you can.

To reiterate what R2D4 said-- DON'T DO THIS. We've contacted Watcheden about this. This is NOT something that we, as the RWI admin team, are comfortable with at all. As soon as we hear from Tony or Sarah, we'll post their response here.
