Considering a Cartier Santos XL Ultimate Edition

The Cartier dealer will not sell you a genuine Cartier strap unless you bring in your Genuine Cartier Santos 100 watch to have it fit. The only way to get a genuine Cartier strap without owning a genuine Santos 100 is on the secondary market like a used Watch dealer or on the Bay. The going price for an authentic alligator strap seems pretty steep.

I did come across an italian strap maker which seems to be making very high quality Alligator straps at a price almost equal to the genuine straps on eBay but I am hesitant to pull the trigger. Otherwise, it's Time Republic for 200.

Maybe just contact a TD of your choice - I'm sure most will be able to get it even if they don't show it on their site.....

Seems that the SS version is the one a lot of folks are pointing to as super rep. Does anyone have a sense for how good the DLC “ultimate edition” versions that many TD’s are selling is?

The strap is poor as everyone who has one will mention so you will need to get this replaced. This is expensive (£300) if you go for the original....which is fantastic. Not sure what the leather replacements a valuable on eBay are like.

Thanks for the link. I've already ordered one that I saw in AliExpress...I know it's probably not the site with the most trusted users but it does say it Alligator/ croc and was £89. I think if I was spending £175 I would probably spend £135 more and get the genuine Cartier strap.

I've got a relatively small wrist and the 100XL was fine. It's not a descrete watch but is curved so fit well on the wrist and is comfortable

The strap from AliExpress was poor and I'm now returning it. The quality of the Alligator leather was ok but the fit on the end was poor...there was a step/gap on the end as the plastic fitting was too small. Seller was so frustrating to deal with as well. Going to get the one from Cartier next month, it's expensive but at least I'm guaranteed it will fit.

I found there are Santos 100 XL replicas what goes ~1600$ with ETA 2892 (same as gen) and ~438$ with ETA 2824. Is it only movement difference or quality too?

I have the XL version. Possibly the best rep ever made. As for the Cabochon it is only synthetic Sapphire on the Gen anyway.

Hi could you or anyone tell me what the difference is between the Santos 100 xl 38mm ultimate edition listed on puretime dated 2013 and Santos 100xl 38mm best edition 1.1 listed on puretime dated 2016 ? Or are they both the same V6 super rep has you have put on your list ?

Looks like a gen strap is a must!! Frustrating that the TD sites say 'genuine croco leather' lol!

It probably is gen croco but it's a bit like comparing diamonds, you can have a yellow diamond with loads of imperfections which is still a diamond but it isn't the clarity or quality that is gonna satisfy your girl when you pop the question. Same with the rep strap, it may well be gen croco but the thickness and finish is a tell a mile off, and it's unfortunate when by and large it's a very good rep, but it is how it is.

The v6f is considered the best rep.
Why would you pay more on that other link when watch would be the same or worse
