Chicago Customs Seized/Confiscated

Looks like people who ordered from Toro had their packages seized. Maybe Toros packaging is easy to spot during customs (excessive tape, use of stamps, hand written address, etc)? I have no idea as I havent ordered from Toro yet, but plan to eventually. Also, if packages with multiple watches end up weighing a certain amount similar to drug shipments (exactly 1kg or whatever) those can be flagged as well based on weight.

I'm on the west coast and watches Ive ordered show up extremely quick. I can order on a monday or tuesday and have the package by end of week with EMS :) That said, people who have packages routed through Chicago sorting might try having their watch sent to a relative on the west coast and then have that relative repackage the watch and ship it via priority mail.

I think it's unfair, inaccurate and unsubstantiated to single Toro out like this just because he's the only TD bold enough to acknowledge and discuss this problem in the forums. The only denominator common to all the seized packages is the Chicago port of entry. There is nothing to suggest they all originated from the same TD.

No, not at all. I wasnt singling him out. There were a few posts (before Toro chimed in) saying their seized boxes were ordered from Toro. I just finished going through all 11 pages and trying to figure out commonalities. By default Toro became one of the common denominators, along with Chicago sorting. The point is to try and figure this stuff out so we can reduce seizures.

I have no idea how customs can flag watch boxes (but there are reddit subs that discuss this very thing). Maybe the item description on the shipping label? Specific weight? No idea. The guy I order from (non TD) sends via EMS and his boxes look all the same as the junk my wife orders on ebay from China.

Anyways, nothing at all against Toro... awesome website and is one of the TDs I will be ordering from in the future!

[SUP]Has anyone read the seizure letter? You have a "right to petition for remission or mitigation of the seizure under Title 19, United State Code, Section 1618." (wow its not even law, its just code like tax code? pppfff!!)

Anyways, you can always fight it by saying you own the watch, bought it on ebay 6 years ago, etc and you sent it to a buddy in HK for repair or mod. I mean whats the worst that can happen? Absolutely nothing. They have far bigger seizures to worry about and might even just give you your watch.

Ive had two traffic tickets in the past 7 or 8 years. I fought both of them and won. First one was driving in the snow through a city I'd never been before. Posted speed was 25mph. I was pulled over and cop said I was going 45+. I knew it was BS and they got me for out of town license plates thinking I would not fight it. It was a moderate snow with lots on the ground and knew I wasnt going 45. I remembered my wife was taking photos out of the window of the city hall and I fought and won by syncing the photo timestamps with google maps and projecting my speed to be 21mph. The judge or who ever handles court cases by mail dismissed my case. The other ticket was fought the same way using google maps and trajectorizing my speed based on the cops location unable to have a good view and the fact I was driving on a curve in the road.

Point is, come up with a plausible story and give it a try. Nothing to lose.[/SUP]

My package went seized in Chicago. It was directed to Miami and Toro was not the TD who sold that watch.

It is coming from China, they pass it through the scanner and they find it´s a watch. The description is not an issue. Nobody puts ¨replica watch¨ in the item description.

I'm in a suburb of Chicago and my purchases have always gone through New York, never had a problem. Not sure why they're going through Chicago now.

How about using Stan the Man? And avoid customs all together?
