Overall I’d say it’s pretty close, but in real life it’s the color that’s way off. You don’t really notice the numerals but the colors of the lume feel wrong right away. Sadly.

The HSF version of his just dropped on trusty which looks to have corrected this, but again in the thick wrong case compared to the dead on case from hkf.

Anyone know how to take the dial and hands of hsf and combine it with the rest of hkf?

It’s amazing that in all the photos of the gen I see in real life the 1 and 2 in the 12 look misaligned.

So I after looking for a 22x18 sail fly strap that had tan stitching like the gen I found none at all. So I decided to just dye the stitching myself with my own color mix. Turned out pretty well I think, matched it to the lume, which is wrong, but
Looks better if it matches. Wdyt?

Nice job on the strap!

I know what you mean about the wrong lume being a distraction. It makes a material difference to the watch and reluming, as good as it sounds, is hard to do. You have to go into a watch like this with the expectation of off lume color on the hands. The dial and case do look good though.

Enjoy and wear it in good health.

Spoiler: this watch is getting crazy wrist time. Like I love it. We will see if this just honeymoon phase but I’m calculating the cost of the gen here!

This is a link to the ESF. Do you have a link to the EKG?

Gonna order the dial and hands from the ESF and if they are better attempt a dial swap to see if they fit. No idea how to get a swap done tho…. Any help appreciated.

You'll need some basic equipment:

  • Nice tweezers - my favorite is the DuMont Titanium SS 140
  • Dial protector (bergeon has nice dial protector sheets)
  • hand levers (removers), make sure they are of good quality. You can pm me if you have links and I can guide you.
  • Hand pressers to put the hands back on
  • Decent quality screwdriver set (~$60+ on aliexpress)
  • Casing cushion or bergeon 4040
  • Dial dots or stickers in case the dials are for different movements
  • finger cots or nitrile gloves
1. Remove the movement from the watch. There are probably some tabs and the crown holding it in. Remove the crown via a lever that is to be lightly pressed with your tweezers tip.

2. You'll need to remove the hands by placing the dial protector on the dial first, then use the hand levers to remove them. Be very careful with the force you press on the dial as you can still scratch the dial even with the dial protector on.

3. Remove the dial. It can be glued on with dial dots, or put in via dial feet, and there is either a screw or lever holding the dial feet in place. Observe first, then act, in that order.

4. Place the new dial - might require cutting the dial feet and using the dial dots or stickers.

5. Place the hands. Ensure you set the time and when the date flips, that will be midnight. Place the hands on the watch at precisely twelve using the hand pressers you bought.

6. Carefully remove the stem, then reinsert the movement back in. Inser the stem, then screw the movement tabs in place..

Feeel free to ask more questions. Or you can send it to any of the watchmakers here.
Voila!

Thankyou! I’ll order the parts and we will see in a few weeks! I’d like to learn to do it myself but I’d also love for a watchmaker to do it right.

The first question is compatability tho. Is there any ways to judge that before complete dissemebly?
