BTF 126500 LN Daytona with DD4131 Movement!

sIn the end it will be a matter personal preference (and price). Personally, looking at the pics that have been shared so far of the black dial version, I like the clean better. The bezel (again?) looks better and the subdials appear to be too fat on the BTF (re-again?). Maybe the ones on the CF are slightly thinner than gen but I'd personally rather have slightly thinner subdials than the opposite on a 12 series.

Also, Clean nailed the panda IMO so it will be hard to do better.

Now on price considerations, I still think that CF will drop its price to be more competitive if BTF and VSF remain agressive on pricing with the final version of the DD4131.

You are so damn right. However, on the Daytona the Clean crystal is not bad (no cyclops thankfully). The movement also appears to be OK so far. Personally, if the DD4131 ends up being a decorated SL-48XX then I won't even think about combining the two. Just replace the SH4131 with an SL-4801 (or even a DD4130) should it ever fail (provided that the clean case accepts it ofc). Now if the DD4131 is a true clone of the calibre 4131 (as the first pictures seem to indicate) than it's a completely different ballgame!

I am not very old in the rep game but I’ll tell you what I learned in that short time:

1/ there is no such thing as a perfect rep. Every rep will have its flaws. So when deciding between two factories, it’s about determining what flaws you can live with. Personally, I move from the most visible to the less visible. On a Daytona the bezel/dial is more visible than a .1 or .2 mm thickness (that is if 11.9 is the actual thickness of the gen)

2/ when it comes to reps, get what you can while you can. There’s no guarantee that an upcoming model will be better. Heck there is no guarantee that it will even be released or that the factory will still be there a month from now. Get what is available, enjoy it and if something better does actually come around, then get the new one and sell the old one ( preferably in that order if your treasury allows it).

3/ Keep in mind that most of the “flaws “ are spotted on macro shots. Even a CF Batman V1 that would be considered as subpar by today’s standards (compared to the latest version with the DD3285) is a great watch that’ll look awesome on your wrist 99,9% of the time and will fool 99.9% of the people (if that’s your endgame).

4/ if you are looking for perfection get the gen. It won’t be perfect by any stretch of the imagination on macro shots but you can convince yourself that it is since it’s a gen.

Whatever you do or get enjoy it to the fullest. Life is effing short…

Like I said it comes down to personal taste/preference. If you prefer BTF then go for it. I personally still prefer clean (particularly on the Panda) for the moment. That's what I would buy if I were on the market for a 12 series today. Tomorow? who knows... That's the beauty of reps. You can buy, enjoy, sell, rinse and repeat...

I think I can see a difference between the pallet fork pivot position of the DD4131 in the photo above, and the pallet fork pivot position of the SH4131. This could imply that Dandong has implemented a true gen style chronenergy escapement geometry on the DD4131.

See how the pallet fork pivot jewel on the DD is out on a little bulge in the pallet bridge:




This will have implications for both swapping in Gen parts, but also on power reserve — it’s possible that this geometry will give the DD movement the edge in terms of power reserve.
