Even though its genuine I don't like it, Its a beauty dead on ...Like Benjjis dead on is a beauty. As far as the beveled lugs I really like them it just looks more finished.

You guys complain too much. :hypnotized:

Ok guys!

I've read every post in this thread since about 2014. Read a few other threads of the frankens people have done. I've decided I want to do my first mod/franken on the bpsd. I believe I've got a pretty good plan together, it's important to me to get the plan right because I don't want to waste any money, my wife and I are both in university and I should spend too much :) Here's my plan. What I am looking for is things I could do better, anything that doesn't sound right and perhaps opinions as to whether something might not be necessary or a way to save cost. thanks

bpsd 2813( i'm thinking since i'm planning to use a gen eta 2836-2 i might as well buy the cheaper version and save $60, my undersanding the case is the same) $170
gen eta 2836-2 from - ottofrei -$239
h4 cannon pinion - ottofrei - ( i understand what this is for, but I don't really know what it is, (ETA 2836-2 & 2879 Cannon Pinion, SS HT.#4, 2.70 mm)? - $8.60
gen crown 704 - $100
WSO tube - $16.50 plus shipping $10
clark bezel spring - $10
gen insert - $200
tc bracelet - $39
tc dial and hands - $100
tc dwo v4 - $35

I would need a modder to
-tap case for gen spec tube
-re-work bezel teeth
-re-work crown guards
-assemble all parts

I also considered possibly:
gen spec crystal - WSO or JandK - $35
crystal gasket?? - ??? - ???
case modded to accept crystal -

I think that about sums it up. I estimate total cost with what I was told i should expect for modding costs and shipping plus the parts to be just under $1400. I'm ok with this cost as it will look fantastic!, with the gen eta and gen crown it will be reliable, and with tc dial and hands plus gen insert it will have killer lume. these are all important to me.

So, feedback on this plan is greatly appreciated. If you have a better idea please let me hear it. If you know where to get parts for cheaper than i listed please let me know. Also it would be greatly appreciated if you guys could suggest modders for me to talk to, please remember i'm in canada so conus is preferred.

thank you guys!

It sounds like a great plan to me, if you have read enough you know my opinion of the crystal and how it should be done. I would say Tagfan1 is your man but he is so busy with his real business he cant finish my watch or his and he has a genuine movement for his....So let me know who you find I was going to approach Johnny Lazzer but I dont know if he would do it, I would also get in touch with Adrian ADO213 for case and crystal work.... JMB might also be a possability and VAC is super clean but I just think he would do a great assembly but not case work, Tagfan1 can do great case work and bezel work and thats why I just wait!!!

If you use gen eta 2836-2 you won't need #4 pinions at all. You only need these if you use a 2824-2 with the stock #2 pinions ( which most new 2824-2 come with)

Ok thank you. I think it was thrasher who suggested the #4 cannon pinions for the 2836-2 or maybe I misunderstood. Perhaps he can chime in.

So ado, you are the crystal modder. Do you do just the crystal or do you do any casework or movement install? I will have to pm you.

Thanks

Ideally I'd like to send it to one person to do all the work. To save on shipping but also I always get nervous shipping a watch.

This brings me to a good question. When shipping a rep over boarders do you insure it for the full value?.describe it as "for repair"? Is there a risk of customs intercepting a $1500 replica? Or do you just ship the parts required or the whole watch?

What I did with my 1675 when it went to RA in France is just mail it the cheapest way possible. That is believable and what RA told me to do. I dont know how Tagfan sent my SeaDweller to England.

Yeah but if it goes missing and it's not insured and you have $1000 into it that's going to hurt. Also if customs opens it and sees a "rolex" valued at $100 I'm sure that would be a red flag for them.

What is your thought on the h4 for the eta 2836-2?.ado seems to think it's not required

It's a plus if you're doing a DJ with stick or baton dials. On a SD it's not so critical although the H4 would probably be closer to gen I'm guessing. You still wouldn't be able to tell the difference without a loupe.

Ado can do casework like crown guard shaping and lug drilling too. I currently have a piece with him that we're working on (awaiting a final part to arrive with me). I have seen images of his work so far and I must say I am very impressed so far. V good communication and a pleasure to deal with - I recommend his services guys!

When I ship local in US I insure when I ship out of states no insurance. Adrian has my SD now doing crystal mod and cg work. Not sure how the VAT works for repair items. H4 is more gen like but as KBH says you need a loupe to see it. It is individual preference I suppose.

I have a question. If I'm going to install eta 2836 over the a2824 that came with my bpsd, do I need to replace the movement holder too?
Hope the expert can chime in.

Shouldn't need to. They're both the same width. The only difference may be the thickness of the dial spacer since the stem position is slightly higher in the 2824.
