Glashütte Original and Blancpain

Glashütte is actually a small town in Eastern Germany, with a tiny population. But quite a few watch companies sit there. Glashütte Original is one of them.

Glashütte Original and Blancpain shared a booth. I wonder why they had a black Lamborghini and no German car.

Some here have the Senator Sixties (I don't, regrettably).

Same booth, different company: Blancpain

They had a very nice, large display of vintage Blancpain watches. They reminded me of the new Breitling Superocean.

Notice this funny day indicator:

IMG_0857_DxO.jpg

A very interesting part was a live demonstration. They had watchmakers there with two full-blown work benchs, complete with spares galore. I saw a tray with elaborate hands and cog wheels ... The best was that they had overhead monitors for the microscopes.

And here the guy in the middle says "This is not true to gen" and the person to the right seems to say "Oh f*ck I don't care if it is not 1:1, it looks good - that is sufficient for me to sell it." Pix LOLed when he saw me making this photo.

Another impression of the hall. Oh noes! We completely left out Omega

TagHeuer

Major disappointment. Empty booth, not much to see. Cool design of the pavillon, though.

U-Boat

Aw, forgot to go there, too.

Porsche

At least they had a cool racing Porsche there. No watch innovations there.
Apologies for the sloppy panorama stitching.

Bell&Ross

The B&R booth was a major dissapointment of the trade show.

I went there and asked, what new products they had. The condescending lady said "Oh, we have always something new, this is not out of the ordinary." Like she cared at all. When I asked about the product that was rumored to be unveiled at Baselworld she just shrugged her shoulders. Where do they find these morons  and why are they getting even paid for this BS. No presskit, just a printed card with the access data to a download on press.bellross.com.

I can't put a name to that watch, but I thought the strap might be inspiring for the strap makers here :)

This is an amazing thread. I'm sure I'm not alone in thanking you for bringing this to us. Most of us will never get to Baselworld so to see all of this is a real treat.

Great job Dr.V and thank you.

It was designed for firemen. I don't know exactly what it's measuring though.

http://www.sinn.de/de/Modell/EZM_7.htm

Seems that this watch is almost the same as the U2
Even the stated operating temp range of -45 °C to +80 °C is the same.
The extra hand is a normal 24hr GMT hand.
Only different features are that it is left handed and has Magnetic Field Protection up to 80,000 A/m.

So if you're fighting fires overseas in strong magnetic fields, you find that the crown of normal watches digs into your wrist and you need to know the time back home, this is the watch for you.

There is more stuff in the pipeline, but work kept me from posting so far and I still have to learn with the kid for her math test tomorrow, etc. etc. ... Going there was the easiest part :D
