Where'd you hear that?

WETA and Jens Hansen have been making gold-plated tungsten rings for years. https://www.wetanz.com/us/the-one-ring-tungsten

It's commonly-heard information right now that the plating on tungsten models has been having issues. Lots of reports from both customers as well as TDs. According to several of my own contacts, factories are well aware of the matter and have been trying to resolve it, but knowing that it hasn't been resolved yet is part of the reason for these very limited-release batches as well as some dealers offering guarantees on the plating work.

Anyhow, it's a matter of figuring out the right process for the right price point. I'd love it if we started seeing tungsten models plated with PVD titanium nitride, which is, in my own experience, virtually indestructible, but I'm uncertain as to the obstacles for that in this particular circumstance which likely have to do with factory equipment limitations, nailing an acceptable tone for the brand (e.g. Rolex), etc.

I don’t know about tungsten rings but I own a full tungsten Daytona at 233g and had the Arf. The info I get is from 4 modders who I order from. They tell me the issues and warn me before buying.

Not sure what type of tungsten the rings use or the color accuracy compared to 18k plating

When it comes to the titanium PVD, there’s no difference between the YG or WG options as far as the plating necessity and durability are concerned.

Regardless of method, there's a big difference in how yellow plating looks compared to white if there are any problems...just one reason I prefer white.

Agreed, and Rolex is a particular pain in the ass for YG plating because their tone is so unique.
