I think the ARF is better all the way around.

I have however owned plenty of DD3285 watches that either wound like complete dog shit or simply under performed.

I think there’s a lot of hype behind the DD, I’ve never owned one that simply blew my mind.

This probably won’t be a popular statement, but it’s my first hand experience.
When we say DD3285 is "better", people lack nuance on this aspect to really understand why watchmakers say it's better. It's better because the architecture is closer to gen and replicated like gen, allowing for gen parts to be swapped in. It's also more accurate and holds accuracy better in 6 positions from my personal experience. The SH3285 is more akin to a homage/design clone and uses incorrect stem (3285 gen stem don't work with SH3285 i think) etc.

This does not necessarily mean the DD3285 is more or less reliable than the SH3285....

Rep movements, DD, SH, they're all the same, you can always get lemons..... I've heard it from both movements, people ARF SH3285 crap out after 6 months, same with DD3285.... should not put people off either movement

If you took both movements and serviced it out of the box - the DD3285 would win everytime. But unfortunately replica assembly QC means a direct comparison would be very hard because the movement assembly quality depends on the worker's mood that day 😂

@Reaps , I understand and I agree with you. It’s just luck of the draw in many cases. I guess I’ve misunderstood the allure of the DD as the best meaning to me the most reliable. Thank you for clarifying that for me..

So far I couldn’t be happier with the ARF, does that mean I’ll never buy another dd? No, I actually have yet another one with DD guts on the way 😂 .. 🍺

As somebody new to this hobby, i read a lot and all i found during research was how unreliable the SH was. I wanted more information about the V2(super -72 PR) so I read your comprehensive guide i think more than 5 times and still couldnt make my mind. I went with the masses on how reliable and genlike the DD was. A lot of people dont break it down inteligently as you just did. Based on that i just jumped on the DD bandwagon. Only after TD recommendation that i said F it, i am buying both, with the intention of selling the one i dont like. Like you said, cant go wrong with both but i was kinda disappointed the dd stopped working. I am glad we have people like you and @DadShoes to educate us. I really appreciate you guys. Thank you
