When we say DD3285 is "better", people lack nuance on this aspect to really understand why watchmakers say it's better. It's better because the architecture is closer to gen and replicated like gen, allowing for gen parts to be swapped in. It's also more accurate and holds accuracy better in 6 positions from my personal experience. The SH3285 is more akin to a homage/design clone and uses incorrect stem (3285 gen stem don't work with SH3285 i think) etc.I think the ARF is better all the way around.
I have however owned plenty of DD3285 watches that either wound like complete dog shit or simply under performed.
I think there’s a lot of hype behind the DD, I’ve never owned one that simply blew my mind.
This probably won’t be a popular statement, but it’s my first hand experience.
This does not necessarily mean the DD3285 is more or less reliable than the SH3285....
Rep movements, DD, SH, they're all the same, you can always get lemons..... I've heard it from both movements, people ARF SH3285 crap out after 6 months, same with DD3285.... should not put people off either movement
If you took both movements and serviced it out of the box - the DD3285 would win everytime. But unfortunately replica assembly QC means a direct comparison would be very hard because the movement assembly quality depends on the worker's mood that day
