The apparent sizes of both the black and the blue background insert markers do change depending on the angle of view and the light. Here is a side by side of two different QC pics of the same watch.

So the 2's can look pretty similarly sized in the right light.

Unfortunately the apparent sizes of the two sets of markers go in opposite directions with viewing angle. The blue background markers appear larger, and the black background ones appear smaller, leading to what will probably be a frequent apparent size mismatch in normal use viewing.

+1 to all of the previously stated flaws. There is a visible slight speed bump at both join lines, it should not be a significant issue IMO.

Thanks KJ, great analysis as always! Yeah it seems on good lighting the black markers are as thick as the blue ones. But on other ones it looks completely different. It'll be quite interesting to see what it looks like in normal conditions! I also agree that the slight speed bump should not be a significant issue. But what do you think about the wrong transition point (slightly too low)?

It's not bad bro. I've seen gens where there was a tiny triangle of black outside the middle of the lower curve of the 8. I'd take what you have over it being too high any day.

Basically, the crystal magnification and height is different on ARF (3x mag) so when switch to a gen crystal(2.5x), it makes the magnification look off.

My franken base ARF. All gen parts with VR3185 movement, what do you think about magnification?
thank you

Stick a gen datewheel and gen Crystal in this and honestly have a very good rep. I used to own the gen and miss it so much. This is a must buy for me

I have a VR3186 waiting for the BLNR as soon as it arrives. From what I'm reading I might wanna look into replacing the crystal and gasket as well?

Except that the gen crystal will show wrong magnification and you'll have a datewindow looking too small

It’s not off by much. The ARF mag was slightly too high compared to 2.5x gen zoom. Was more like 2.75x with ARF xtal. I think mag is about 2-2.25x with gen xtal.

Here’s my ARF with gen xtal. Still worth it imho.

I did a quick photoshop comparison between a few gens found on chrono24 and the frankens here. It seems that there is variance in the gens as well, though the ARF frankens still have a little under magnification IMO (and I had seen other examples of such issues in the original ARF 116710 thread). Mark1937 your seems to be closer though, did you do anything in particular to address this issue? Just curious if it's luck of the draw or shaving the gasket or something else?

Hopefully this helps folks judge for themselves

Nothing. Only install gen blister parts + VR movement on ARF case

Given the underlying under magnification issue, maybe a thicker Gen crystal from Subs may help with higher magnification, even if it is incorrect for GMT.

For Sub 25-295-C12-C1 2mm
For GMT2 25-295-CAR-C1 1.8mm

@saucin and @Mark1937 what crystal you guys put on your watch?

Ok so the mag issue. Is the issue with the case? The sink for the crystal gasket... or is it strictly the crystal/gasket coupled with the font size of the date wheel?

If the problem is with the crystal, a new crystal and DW should fix the problem.

If the problem is with the case itself, I dunno the solution.

I’m assuming the DW on the VR3186 is the same font size as gen, and that the SH3186 for the ARF has modified date wheel font size to accommodate the crystal height.

it's just a gasket issue. Buy some different gaskets then you have it fixed. However, changing the mag from 2.5 to 2.75 or 2.25 it's just placebo.....

Yours looks OK to me bro, next to a gen. Some members experienced a significant reduction in mag level (.5X) when swapping a gen/prof crystal into an ARF LN.
