“Holding value” means that somebody else will be willing to pay close to the price you paid. I’m not sure that’s true for RM reps — the demand for them in m2m feels soft. I think it’s always best to buy a rep because you love it not because you like it and think you can sell it if you change your mind.
Amen. Takes a true RM lover to snatch it again.

It's hard for me to trust any chinese sources... they have made everything look good in photos, but when you get it, it's shit.

I do hope you're right though. And considering APS is basically ZF from what I understand, I hope ZF will fix their painted ribs and replace the NTPT bezel with this one if it's really shiny gen like

Idk but APSF NTPT looks good to me. Also the RM color for the Yas Marina is.... better than most I've seen? Could be lighting.

These pictures are heavily edited to look like it has rich deep marbleing. Hence the YAS blue being ''more correct, and darker''. irl its lighter in color.

Yep, they shine a really bright light to being out extra reflection in the NTPT. That’s why you’re getting so much reflection from the movement, as well.

I hear the ZF and APSF NTPT is wonderful if you stand in front of a car headlamp.

Well that confirmed my suspicion about chinese practices on these things .... smh

You don't happen to have access to a good NTPT bezel to replace these do you?

Currently in talks with a carbon manufacturer. But seems they not understand the marbling.

Quick sample i had made before. Still trying to develop it.

i am sure RM uses specialized materials. after that, how about a coating and/or polishing? i have Cf that i polished, the difference is striking. i have not messed with coatings.

The curvature of the base NTPT layers is crucial. Not to speak of the 45° angled weave pattern per layer and the thickness per each layer itself.

I can imagine that the original manufacutrer of NTPT offers blocks in the requested shape - which would drive costs up.

The pic below shows the red/white tpt but is similar to the ntpt versions whereas the change of direction each layer is laminated onto the next one and the atmospheric pressure used to fully laminate the layers together create an irregular marbling after the fibres are cut and their angles reflect light at an angle like fibre optic cables.

Just my 2ct. You and the Manufacturers are probably well aware of it while the production is of course more complex than that.

You can get real NTPT blocks but it's harder than it used to be and the ones you could find on Ali seem to have disappeared, but the devil's in the details and Bionone has it right. The thinner carbon is harder to handle and harder to source, on top of being harder to make in the first place, and the 45* angle is essential, plus the curved molds. It's really not that hard to make at all, but to do it the proper way on an industrial scale means lots more hands and thus much greater cost, and so those corners get cut hard in the rep market and we end up with the (honestly pretty similar to anyone who isn't us) carbon that we have.
